I have a two thousand fourteen mustang.G t that I picked up, which is surprisingly bone stock, except for roush exhaust. I wanna basically track it with the power that it has.But I definitely need some shocks.I don't think they've ever been replaced. And at the same time, these tires I have are just ridiculous. So I was wondering, how come nobody seems to rock the stock wheels? What's wrong with them if I was just to wrap some nice toyo tires around them?

Nothing 'wrong' with them, it mostly boils down to two factors in regards to the standard 2014 GT 18" wheel:
1. Ford Engineering drew them to only fit the 2-piston sliding front calipers. You'll find a lot of people are using the 4-piston S197 Brembo brakes or better for the track. Those wheels don't clear the Brembo brakes.
2. Factory tire size of 235 section width on the factory 8" wheel is low in grip by comparison to what you can fit under the fenders. You'll find a lot of people are running a 10"+ wheel with a 285+ section width tire for the track.

Learning on the stock wheels and tire size is fine with good on-track instruction. When your skill increases and you're searching for more mechanical grip, you can look at getting wider wheels and tires (potentially with larger brakes).

I bought my 2011 V6 used in 2014 and never had the opportunity to see the stock wheels in action. Wheels are often one of the first mods people do. But even with the V6, over the years I learned what I liked for tires and wider always worked better. For my only street driven V6, I ended up using 255/45 18's. Very nice driving, no scraping and did decently on turns, but when I converted it to a Boss, I knew there'd be too much flex there.

While building my Boss, for reference, I found someone with a stock well kept example and they let me take it for a hard drive. I found that on turns the front 255/40 19's were the portion that lost grip.

Pretty much everybody on TMO says when it comes to tires for the Mustang, the wider the better. From personal experience I know that for daily driver comfort, thicker is better but that tire flex will reduce cornering stability. This can be mitigated somewhat with higher tire pressure I think. You just have to decide what you're going for. I think the only people who stay stock are collectors.

Just a note that the base 18” wheels fit over the 4p brembo calipers using spacers. I use this combo for my 235/18 snow tires on a 2011. Which is also a fun setup for the occasional skid pad/car control parking lot days.

When I looked at doing it, by the time I bought longer studs and quality spacers, could have just bought new cheaper 18 X 9 or 10 wheels.
(which I did).

You dont need any spacers for 18x10?

Primarily it's due to them being so incredibly narrow given the heft of the vehicle. With a few basic mods you can fit an 18x11 wearing a 295-315 under the fenders and that provides you with significantly more grip than the 18x8 and their associated 235 tires would.
Nice man that makes sense I appreciate the response I was thinking their heavy too. When I had my 328i that was hooked up a little bit for the track.i ran forged 19s and I got much better handling and input

I can't access your build list on what's the best looking sta g I've seen yet . I love that orange and the racing wing . I thought I liked the 2014 the most until.i saw your car

You do not need spacers until you go 11” wide if you get the correct offset. I run 295/40/19 on 19 x 11 wheels without spacers on my 2011.
Nice is thst pretty.wide? You run all square

Not anything near what you need to get stock base 18's over Brembos.
I did use thin, maybe 5mm spacer, but it still allowed wheel to catch "hubcentric" ring,
and did not require changing studs or lugs. Mostly I did it to keep inner edge of 305 tire from hitting
inner fender.

Yes Apex EC7 19 x 10 at all four corners. I have run anywhere from 275-295 wide tires. Currently have a set of 275/35/19 Hankook Rs4’s on one set and 295/30/19 Toyo Ptoxes R on the other set.

Guys,

Looking for an 18x10 with 285 or 19x10 with 285/295 setup. What's a good budget wheel and tire combo for the street? I've been looking at wheels this morning and didn't really see what I was looking for. Years ago I had some SVE Drifts in 18x10 with 285's and I THINK a 43mm offset. Are those still available? What else is? I'd like to avoid spacers.

First off, try Apex, since they support TMO, and they are a reasonable choice at a decent price, if you go full on kill mode the Fordgeline is your choice. Everyone I know uses an 18 inch wheel, even the current Gt4 cars.. I'm trying to remember when I last saw a 19 inch wheel used in competition.
