What we thought was a header gasket turned out to be a damaged header after running for three hours at our last enduro race. The pointed extractor at the union of the four tubes is somewhere in my muffler! Its a real pain to take out with the modified A arms and Moroso oil pan!!
Nah, you'll feel it's worse when you try to get it.
Maybe now that it's out, you'd consider a higher quality merge in the collector. Like this:
Not that what's there was bad (aside from the weld quality) but there should be improvements in torque if the merge/transition areas are smoothed out/tapered better.
Found the example via google. I've only done things like that with local fabricators...way back when I was drag racing. Before products like this were 'off the shelf':
And since the coyotes also fire on opposite banks every pulse, you could also consider modifying for a tri-Y like setup if the tubes from opposite pulses are adjacent not cross from each other. I haven't looked up if anyone is doing anything like that for these engines, but I doubt it.
Kooks responded right away and said it was unusual... They are willing to repair it but living at the end of the world, shipping would cost much more then fixing it down here..... Very tempted with some of the options of collectors... will see over the summer, but in the mean time we have a friendly track day next week, so we will make a quick fix... Its mainly for classic cars.... But being at the track next to a original Testarosso or Aston DB4 is worth the extra work!
If you were in the states, the choice would be obvious to let them fix it. I don't see the value paying the round trip for something so large. I'd ask if they could provide a replacement shipped to your freight forwarder.
Otherwise, I think fixing/upgrading/improving the set you have should work well with your recent cam upgrades.
That was made by my guy........ We could not find the original in the exhaust, so we like to think it gave my main competitor a flat tire... Not that I wish him ill or anything but he was trying very hard to crash into us in our last enduro....
He acutally did get a flat tire and later destroyed his gearbox trying to catch up... oil & gears and such all over the track.
