How is it you choose between a R and a S?

The R’s are typically more expensive due to the required equipment needed for endurance racing. They should be pretty close in lap times. The S has more aero though.

If you want a track day car, I think you should really look into a GT1 car. They are so much better than any production based car, its hard for me to put it all into words. They are way faster, safer, easier to adjust, easier and cheaper to maintain. You've driven plenty of street cars. You (and everyone reading this) really should try a real race car.

This car is selling for $65k. In 5 years it will still be worth 65k. Its fully sorted, no brake issues, no trans issues, no factory electrical bs and has a motor that any race motor builder can freshen up. Yeah its a camaro. So what. When you are in the drivers seat all you know is that you are in the baddest car that you've ever been in. This is what a real closed wheel, production based body, race car looks like.

That looks very interesting. Thanks for the link. Lots of options out there. I’d also consider a Radical if they weren’t open cockpit. The full cockpit cars are beyond my budget.

The bidding ended at $52K with Reserve Not Met, so I wonder what it would take to get one of these? You can buy a new one for ~$80K.

I have been told the cheap route is to find a well sorted stock car with no engine, and put a mild-LS in it.

Used TA2 car or maybe Howe Road Race ASA chassis + Cammed LS3 should be years of entertainment for not a whole lot

What are consumables cost wise for those cars vs OEM style cars? I would think pads and rotors are going to be pricey. Hubs, wheel bearings? Shocks rebuildable? Is the service life for parts better than OEM type given that they're parts designed for race use?

Its hard to compare apples to apples but I ran GT1 for 10yrs while my buddy ran showroom stock and he spent quite a bit more than I did. Some race parts cost more, some less but they seldom fail and always last longer.

Any stock car based road racer is very cost effective because there so many companies that make parts.
