Just one more data point regarding the Falken RT660's. Last month, I installed my second set of RT660's for a two day event at Laguna Seca. I have seen no issues with either set (so far).
Great news!I developed a fascination for Laguna Seca watching CART and Cam-Am events starting in the 70's. I had to wait until late in life to start my HPDE hobby. Laguna Seca was at the top of my bucket list.After starting with Hooked-On-Driving in the summer of 2019 at Oregon Raceway...
Hi Rod, I have not driven at UMC. I thought I was going to when Ford had their GT350 Track Attack running there, but they moved the program to Charlotte Motor Speedway, so I got to run at the Roval instead.
Yes, Bill, I meant Portland International Raceway. Thx for clarifying!Unfortunately, I didn't make it to Portland-IR last fall. About a week after my first post, I ran a weekend track day at Oregon Raceway Park (my favorite track and as luck would have it, the closest to me @ 350 miles). While...
Hi Matt, I use the Mac's 2" VersaTie equipment for securing each wheel:The first picture shows the ratchet close to the tire, but you can position it as far away as your straps and track will allow, so that it will extend out from under the car. Make sure your installation provides extra...
On hot track days, I use A/C on the grid and on the cool-down. However, several times on-grid, I've forgotten to turn the A/C off. I now use a mnemonic to assist.Can't be 100% positive if it's causation or correlation, but I've maimed two A/C compressors so far - both during a track day...
+1. In addition to the winch, I heartily recommend a side-escape door with a removable wheel fender so the car door can swing out over the trailer tires. Makes loading/unloading easier and the trailer nicer to work in.
Hi Warren, I installed a Warn Axon 55-S in my enclosed car trailer. 5500 lb pull. 50' of 1/4" Synthetic rope. Includes the fairlead and hook. It is IP68 waterproof for external use. I got the wired-remote. MSRP is nearly $1100, but you can find it on Amazon and other places for under $800. I've...
I am planning my next HPDE. This time at PIR at the end of September. I live a long distance from all tracks, so an extra day out and back are generally required.Many tracks do not allow the trailer/car to be parked at the track the night before an event, nor allow them to remain until the...
Hi Stan, The ZL1 website doesn't seem to have a picture of the rear tow hook, but you can buy it by selecting from their pull-down menu.Here's a photo of the rear tow hook attached to my rear bumper bar:
Back in the day, my wife brought her 10-year-old '71 Pinto into our marriage with over 100K miles on the little 1.6L four-banger. I used it for my 18-mile daily commute for over three years. It's green paint was flaking and we draped towels over the seats to keep the disintgrating foam off my...
I prefer an open face helmet for autocross. Compared to an open-track/HPDE event:
1. I find there is more social interaction & the open-face makes it easier and more enjoyable to communicate;
2. It's cooler when you're sitting in a hot car with no airflow while you await your run;
3. I feel that...
