Spec Iron in NASA Great Lakes, Rain race for last race of the year!

It had literally started to mist lightly about 20 minutes before this race....we made the call, as well as the gold car, at the last minute to switch from dry tires....really, really glad we did...we both made it to grid with just one minute left!

Spec Iron in NASA Great Lakes, Rain race for last race of the year!

Bill, finished with the points championship over my main competitor, it went down to the last two races though! The class is gaining some steam in the Great Lakes area, we added a new driver this year with at least 2 maybe 3 more new cars coming in next year. We should field at least 5 and up...

Spec Iron in NASA Great Lakes, Rain race for last race of the year!

A few laps in the last race of the year for NASA Great Lakes Spec Iron. Rain made it interesting, as the Toyo RA1s leave more than a little to be desired as a rain tire. The RRs are great for the dry tire though! The 3V solid axle can be a handful in the wet on RA1s :)

China Beach Oil, Spec Iron disaster! PSA for safety equipment!

We were literally through the brake zone(first cars) no more than 5-10 seconds after the dump, so no debris flag, sounds like an oil line let go, it wasn't dropping or burning oil until BAM.....loads of oil.....makes for scary interesting times!

China Beach Oil, Spec Iron disaster! PSA for safety equipment!

That is exactly why I was working so hard to get out of the beach! Was thinking about someone flying into me like a sitting duck!

China Beach Oil, Spec Iron disaster! PSA for safety equipment!

This past weekend (May 31,2020) NASA Great Lakes ran at MidOhio. In the Sunday Thunder group in Sunday's first race, an American Iron car dropped oil in the brake zone of China Beach....one of the worst places on the track to do so! The following video shows two Spec Iron cars (2005-2010 3vs)...

    Blows the Competition to Smithereens!!!!!!!!

Blacksheep, I have run karts a few times, but most of my racing years have been in circle track for then road racing. #55 really won't understeer much on most tracks, so the corrections were to keep oversteer in check. You are correct though in the fact the fastest laps will be on line with a...

    3Vs...We're Not Dead Yet!

Hi Apex3V,The Spec Iron class is great....the SE is booming....the guys down there came up to run nationals with us Great Lakes boys at MidOhio and we had a blast. The cars are rather equal....look at our qualifying and race times for the championship race. Once you get your car dialed...

    3Vs...We're Not Dead Yet!

Another 3V just joined....I posted this video in the road race forum, but thought it would also fit well in here. The car is a 2010 Mustang GT modified to full Spec Iron criteria. Basically a stock 4.6 (tune only), MCS coilovers, camber plates, 275/18 Toyos all around, and GT500...

    Blows the Competition to Smithereens!!!!!!!!

Sunday 10/6/2019 Thunder Qualifying video.....was pretty crazy with water across the track in some critical areas....

    Blows the Competition to Smithereens!!!!!!!!

Here is a link to the Spec Iron track record lap 1:35.990, the stock 3V can really move if you keep her on boil....kind of hard to do with the spec 3:31 rear end gears! I screwed up turn one a little...could have even been a better track record....
