If I dug out The Who, you know I gotta do this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......Whose the new Boss..............
Isolated video of John "The Ox" Entwistle (RIP) on that song. Standard Ox mode - Daltry throwing the mic and running around the stage, no doubt Townshend and Moon up to their antics, and Entwistle just standing there unfazed, playing lead bass to Townshend's rhythm guitar. Music starts 1:12.

Saw The Who on their (first) farewell tour at Shea Stadium in 1982 - drove down from upstate NY with a car full of college friends. Same concert was used for The Clash's Should I Stay or Should I Go video. In The Clash video, you can see The Who's drum set, with towels over the cymbals, behind Terry Chimes.

David Johansen (post-NY Dolls and pre-Buster Poindexter) opened, The Clash played a full set, then The Who closed out the show.

I've got two very distinct memories from the concert - first, we had seats about 15-20 rows from the edge of the mezzanine level and directly behind home plate. When The Clash were doing their most popular songs, I could see the edge of the balcony moving up & down several inches against the crowd on the field, from all the people bouncing to the beat.

Second, it was a chilly mid-October evening, and the stage was way out in center field. The lighting rig had a panel the width of the stage full of aircraft landing lights - each light is a spot beam of around 600w - and the panel rotated from pointing at the stage to the crowd. Whenever those ACLs were pointing at us, I went from chilly to noticeably toasty, and I was over 400 yards away.

Found a picture - not exactly the same light rig, but from that tour - the 2x8 boxes are all ACLs.

I see 16 boxes, and judging from perspective that's probably half the stage, so 32 total. 600w per bulb * 16 bulbs per box * 32 boxes = 307,200 watts of radiant energy blasting out. Yes, only about 10% is visible light, but nearly all the rest is infrared (heat). And I could sure feel it that night.

The Clash and Johansen also played separate dates that same year at the college I was attending to support their independent tours. Several years later, I saw Entwistle on a solo tour at Toad's Place. Ox was amazing, absolutely shredding the bass and had a great singing voice. And still just standing in one spot for most of the night.

Glorious Saturday today. Sunny, temps nearing low 60's later............I took the Boss out for a spin. The Boss started OK......The battery is recovering from the brutal cold we had this past winter and it's still on borrowed time since it's over 8 YRS OLD!!!!.........I'm pushing my luck to the limit here.........I know!!!!!!!!! The cheap skate in me lives on , for now......I think I should invest in a set of jumper cables, just in case....................They won't help me if the battery dies in the garage............................
