So I hit the lotto and was given a 2013 gt base model for free. I have a 2014 gt performance pack with 37k miles that I was thinking of building that but after my 1st track day I wanted to put a roll bar and saftey since I have 3 kids but my kids love going for rides in the car and I didnt want to cut it all up. I was looking at picking up a 3 series e90 to make into a dedicated track car but that all changed now since I got this. The car is not in great cosmetics shape but perfect for a track car . The goal of the car is to make a dedicated track car and in the future possibility a time attack car. The car has 170k so I want to replace the cooling for coolant and oil, but I dont know what to do for brakes. Since the other car has the factory brembos I just got track pads and flushed the brake fluid with motul 600 . For a base model what should I do for brakes. Since I dont trust a 170k mile calipers and the car sat for the last 2 1/2 years. My question is if I replace the stock calipers with just new oem one can I get track pads for them and get the car on the track or should I definitely upgrade the brakes. The goal is to get the car on the track to get some track time. Im looking at getting a roll bar, harness and racing bucket for saftey, then for suspension koni yellows and the car already got eibach’s pro kit, lca and basic suspension mods. The car has gt500 reps so I was planning on keeping them and getting some 660s till I get a set of apex wheels. If I have to swap out for factory brembos I can always take the factory pp wheels off my other car since they have fk510 with 1 track day on them and just pick up another set for the other car but if I dont have to I rather not. Right now im in nj so njmp will be the predominant track but im might be moving to the Gainesville ga area so then road Atlanta and Atlanta motorsports park will be the tracks the car will see. Im visiting ga in april for job interviews so its bades on that. I appreciate the help.

Congrats on your car!

I cannot personally be of much help, but maybe this thread will help?

And of course, this one, complete with a photo at Road Atlanta, maybe your future home track,

And there is a really good link to a Vorshlag thread on brakes there, source linked in the first post. They finally made an aftermarket upgrade for the brakes, and I am not sure you will find that information anywhere else.

Anyway, you now have hours and hours of reading, so I hope you find something useful in all of that.

WIth 170k miles a sitting for a couple years, I agree with not trusting the current calipers (or hoses). The cheap fix would be rebuilding / replacing all 4 calipers and replacing the flex hoses at each corner.

However, I think you'll begin to out-drive the base brakes pretty quickly on a dedicated track car. So a front caliper / rotor upgrade is eventually in order, and you might as well put the money you'd spend refurbishing the stock base brakes into upgrading the system.

Ford Performance sells an upgrade kit with the 4-piston Brembo fronts you have on your '14 Perf. Pack. As you know, these are pretty good brakes and with decent cooling can take care of you well into your track time journey. For many folks, it's all they need. https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-2300-S

Ford also sells a kit to upgrade to the 6-piston 15" fronts and 13.8" rear from the 13-14 GT500. https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-2300-T

The rear caliper is the same for all Mustangs; the GT500 just uses a different axle bracket to move the caliper out to fit the larger rear rotor. If you want to save money, just buy the GT500 rear axle caliper brackets as regular Ford parts and install them when you've got the axles out to install an LSD. You're going to install a helical-gear type LSD (Torsen or TrueTrac), right?

Grab your favorite beverage and give this thread a read for an inexpensive DIY 6-piston upgrade based on S550 parts - https://trackmustangsonline.com/threads/huge-brake-upgrade-for-s197-chassis.11867/

With any option, you want to completely flush the brake system with something like Motul RBF 600 and use good track pads.

If you can get any kind of cooling to the front rotor / hub, it will greatly help as well. Even a simple deflector can work; Vorshlag makes them, but the cheap solution is to use Porsche ones (links in post #12). https://trackmustangsonline.com/thr...gtp-vs-versus-or-some-other.21322/post-324121

I appreciate all the help. Ive been working on the house trying to get it ready for the sale so I haven't been on here to reply. Im excited to start wrenching on the new project car with my kids. My oldest son named the car The Dark Horse. Im just trying to keep the sport alive with the next generation. Once the move is done I will start a build page. Im also selling my boat so it will bring up some money for the car.
