Is it better to change the compression on these to 11:1 to match the gen1 setup? Or is 12:1 fine with the gen1 heads?I just put together an engine with Boss 302 heads. I ordered a Gen 3 short block from Livernois. The only difference is the oil adapter for the Gen 3 has an additional hole. I am using a remote oil filter setup so it was not a problem at all. I think if you use the Gen 3 oil filter adapter it will work. You always want to use the head gaskets that match the heads, so for that setup I used the Gen 1 (Boss 302 are the same) Ford head gaskets. Been running great!
Right now the best option for a strong but inexpensive bottom end is a factory Dark Horse short block. They are super strong and pretty bulletproof up to 1000 hp. So a N.A. Boss build will not stress it much at all. About $5k if you have a returnable core. Regular Gen 3 short block is good as well but the DH has better rods and pistons. What is the best gen coyote block to use for a new build? I have a boss 302 ls and would like to use those heads . I have spare set. May not go into a coyote equipped car .
Just researching info. Tx chris
