S550 Do transmission scoops make a difference?

I recently started tracking my 2016 GT MT82 and I keep reading about transmission heat and lockout issues.

Are those problems legitimate or overblown? Do minor preventative issues like this air scoop make any difference?

I only ever got lockout when i first got the car and it happened on the street twice i think. Once was going into 2nd and the other 3rd. As Boss said I have heard it being attributed to the clutch as well as the stock body mounted shifter

I have that scoop, along with a mcleod RST and MGW shifter and it hasnt happened to me on track
 
An MGW shifter solved the lockout problems I originally had. Can't say I've really noticed any transmission heating issues on my MT82...yet.

Legit.

I have a scoop as well as a pump and cooler on my MT82. Lockout is usually attributed to your clutch. A heavier clutch over works the syncs and causes lock out.
Were you having temp issues with the gearbox or did you do it as preventative work? Were you able to see a difference in temp with the scoop in place?

I'm not sure if what we see on the box are cooling fins or stiffening ribs? They're a little short if for cooling, so not much of an opportunity for heat transfer, but that doesn't mean the scoop won't help.

The shifter is a big deal. The stock, chassis mounted shifter is an absurd mounting scheme. I suspect there is a small amount of NVH which is eliminated, but it is such a bad shifter that I'm not sure anyone cares. An MGW shifter is the answer for that part.
 
I did the full meal deal searching for a way to stop lockout. Line, Removed the helper spring, Stiffener for the trans point, MGW shifter all which "seemed" to help some. Then shifter helped the most.......uhtil I pulled the stock clutch and went with a twin disc clutch. THEN everything worked great. Simple click, click for each shift. What did I learn? Start with the clutch if you have a stock set up.

Cooling for the Trans. I started with a scoop and noticed a small difference when checking with an IR gun after a session, 10-15 deg drop. With the cooler installed temps are 40ish less. High 200's and now low to mid 200's.

Interesting. I've got a Mantic ceramic twin disc with an AL flywheel going in with the new engine. I wonder if I'll notice a difference in shifting? It should free-rev a hell of a lot faster, that's for sure. We 4-banger guys turn 1000-1500 revs lower than the V8 guys (the redline is 6800, but the shift point is more like 5800. I bet those added revs cause some of the shifting issues. Once I got my MGW shifter, my problems (which weren't crazy to begin with, just annoying) went away.
