If Vorshlag is working on it I would bet they are going with the " Gold Standard" Motion Control Suspensions ( MCS ) ! Like others , wish it had stayed with a Blue Oval Powerplant, but regardless it will be a great machine to see at the track!

We ended up converting the car to a strut car which seems like going backwards. Originally the car was an SLA but it had some inherent flaws, one of those being the spindles. The 1st and 2nd gen mustang spindles flex when you have sticky tires causing pad knock back. I also didn’t want to risk losing the car because of a spindle failure. If you compare the size of a 1st gen spindle to the s197 spindle you’ll see the difference. The 1st gen spindle is tiny.

We also wanted to run the Boss 14” Brembo brakes and Ford racing hubs. This would also allow us to use Ford ABS, no more flat spotting tires.

The car is on 2-way MCS dampers and custom one off Vorshlag lower control arms. I hope terry makes some extras for the future in case I need a replacement.

The LS7 was never part of the plan and kind of fell into my lap. An aluminum block ford 427 was out of my price range and the coyote would have required major fab work to fit. The LS7 also came with a dry sump system which was most ideal for track use.

Now I can go to ford and GM events. lol

Maier Racing is starting to do a lot more carbon fiber parts for vintage cars. I've got the Maier racing CF front fenders on the 67 and now this lower air dam/splitter. I'm thinking about doing a nascar style rear spoiler on the car and Maier Racing should have something similar to that coming out in the next few months. I thought about doing a full custom front fascia with a larger splitter but for now decided against it. I like the original lines of the car but wanted to accentuate them a little. For example the Maier Racing carbon fenders are about 2.5" wider per side. This was one of the elements that allowed unto fit a 315 up front. The widened fenders are very subtle so most won't even notice they aren't OEM.

The front end is coming together. The car is currently at a local body shop getting the panels fitted. Working with old cars and composite panels unfortunately requires a lot of body work to get the panel gaps right. I think it's going to look pretty mean and I'm happy I went with the lower carbon fiber splitter from Maier Racing. The splitter and fenders are carbon and the hood and doors are fiberglass. The rear quarters are the original metal and will need some massaging so the rear suspension can articulate without any rubbing.

Some more updates on the car. It's still currently at the body shop. In hind sight maybe I should have just stuck with the stock steel panels...this composite stuff requires a lot of body work. The composition hood, doors, and fenders saved about 150lbs off the front of the car. Is 150lbs really worth it? IDK?

Anyway, once he's done with the front he will start flaring the rear fender to clear the 315's and better match the front flares. I'm not going extreme with the flares because I want to keep most of the classic body lines.

The numbers are finally in, 2457lbs. Note: If you look in the bottom right corner of the photo you'll see a few things are missing but doing some quick math this is what I think will end up being the cars final race weight.

Engine Oil = 15lbs
Tranny Fluid = 5lbs
Power Steering = 1lbs
Brake Fluid = 1lb
Fuel 15 gallons = 95lbs
Cage Completion = 50lbs
Fixed Back Seats = 60lbs
Misc Wiring/Hardware = 10lbs

So with a full tank of fuel minus driver = 2694lbs.
Weight with driver (185lbs) = 2879

These are my estimates give or take a few pounds. Should be fun with 500whp/tq

I made a short video updating the progress of the car and where the build is going. I want to get this thing on the track. I really wanted to have it at LS Fest West but now I've got a goal of getting to LS Fest East and Ford Fest.
