If you want to get really fancy, you bend the tips into other slots in the castle nut so there's no sharp points sticking out to poke you.

That is almost art. Pretty cool, but a little too fussy for me.
In all my years of dinking around with things mechanical I've never had a cotter pin fail.
 
Hi everyone, this project has been sold. I have another track mustang project now that I am excited to share soon.

I will always cherish the time that I spent with this car, and I am thankful for everything that I learned while driving and working on it.

My conclusion on the S197 V6 is that it's a fun and easy to work on platform. The S197 is definitely meant to have the V8 (ask me how I know :)), but you can still have good fun with the V6, just make sure you get the 5-speed. It's a very modular platform with a ton of potential that's not burdened with electrical nannies, looks good, easy to work on, and has plenty of aftermarket support... I'm just a bit of a fan of the platform I guess.
