I'm currently running the s550 performance pack 6 pot Brembos on my 2005. Right now the engine is currently out for a Coyote swap.

Wondering what the best strategy would be to upgrade the brake booster and/or master cylinder while everything is essily accessible. Currently have a 2013 Boss 302 cylinder and booster available if those would be an improvement?

That will work fine. Since the pedal travel is a longer you want to use a aggressive brake pad to make up for it. Am pretty sure the Boss brake booster is the same as the GT500 unit.

My understanding is that the master cylinder is identical on all s197 models, and smaller than the s550 master cylinder used with the 6 piston s550 brakes. The brake booster is sized differently for the s197 Boss and GT500 models compared to the standard GT, creating a firmer pedal feel. But the longer pedal travel with the 6 piston s550 brakes in an s197 is just part of the deal absent a complicated rebuilding of the master cylinder.

When I built my car and I was comparing parts to see what I needed to keep, swap or replace -- I found that the part number on Brembo equipped S197s is different than the one on non-Brembo equipped cars. When I asked about it, I was told that the brake booster on Brembo equipped Mustangs is weaker to adjust for the Brembo characteristics. This may have been a change that they did after 2012 though since I got this info from the current Ford catalogs. I checked the one on my donor car, and it appears that my donor boss got the base model brake booster from the factory. I thought about changing it out for the one that the catalog says I should have, but it seems to work and feel just fine. So I just kept it.
