GT350 Oil cooling issues on track

Hi folks, I ran into oil cooling issues at my last track day. Oil temps rose to 290+ degrees, putting the car into a temporary limp mode until the temps came down. The last few sessions I tried short shifting, which helped. I know from reading similar threads that this is pretty normal for this car/engine, but I’m wondering if anyone knows of a mod or upgrade that will take care of the issue. I would like to be able to focus on pushing myself and the car on track rather than short shifting and worrying about oil temps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For reference:
- 2018 GT350
- powertrain/drivetrain is stock
- all other temps were fine
- oil change right before the track day with Ford Motorcraft 5w-50
- no other known issues

It would be helpful to know what track and what weather - outside temps, etc. The factory cooling is pretty good on the GT350, so it's rare to get one that hot. It's possible you need more cooling, but it's also possible that the existing cooling isn't working right.

dang, I meant to add that info.

Track: Heartland Park Topeka
Weather: Sunny
Outside Temp:
- Morning session was in the 60s
- late Morning was in the 90s

Both sessions had this issue.

Have you ever inspected/cleaned the surfaces of your heat exchangers? Might be covered in crud, bugs, pickup?

Actually, the OPs experience is not unusual. The factory GT350 oil cooler is not sufficient if you really start working the car, especially in warmer weather. Basically, you need a Setrab 960 for 5.2L motors and possibly fabricated ducting. Take a look at what is in the FP350 - a Setrab 960 with ducting, not the OEM GT350 cooler.
