While I'm new to this site, some of you I'm familiar with either by meeting at a track event or recognizing your car.

My addiction started in 09 at the Mustang 45th Anniversary in Birmingham via Team Shelby track day pass giveaway.

I would spend the next few years going to various track days (a couple per year). As time progressed, decided it was time to look for a project to build into a dedicated track car.

Fast forward to 2013, the year after Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast, Dean Martin was selling a flood salvage 07 Shelby GT.

Quick drive to the East side of the state for inspection and a deal was made.

The initial interior disassembly would take place in front of the small 2 stall attached garage as the new "man cave" ground breaking wouldn't take place for a few months.

More to come.

This is looking to be a great thread....welcome!

Welcome to TMO. We all love car builds so keep it coming!

Initial indication suggested the flood waters barely reach the top of the hump, however, upon removal of interior it became apparent the flood line was closer to bottom of radio.

IMAG1357_zpsc0c542f5.jpg

At the time I did something that I would later regret (hindsight is 20/20) decided to try and turn the motor over by hand to see if it was seized, it turned over, however, heard some sloshing in the process. At that point decided to drain engine and tranny fluids for inspection. Turns out tranny was good, however, motor had ~1/2 quart of water. Filled both with fluids. Approx. a year or so later tried to turn motor over by hand without success, it's now froze. Eventually I realized that the exhaust side must of had some flood water that caused the "sloshing" in which introduced water into the motor.

Due to garage (a.k.a. mancave) build and other events, the car would sit at this stage for the next couple years.

An opportunity would present itself in June 2015. A friend had fallen asleep at the wheel of her 07 Shelby GT causing a run in with a pole barn. While she was slighlty bruised form the incident, the car was totaled. Wound up striking a deal to buy back directly from insurance. Perfect candidate for neccesary parts to rebuild hurricane.

This provided the first glimpse into the mileage on "Hurricane" as I was able to plug in the instrument cluster where mileage is stored:

Once reaching this milestone, ran into some issues. While hurricane had tell tale signs that at one time in it's life it had a centri style supercharger (tapped oil pan, dual gt-500 fuel pump (as evidenced with dual drivers in trunk and the additional wiring) and a few other things). While history shows this car was purchased as a used vehicle within 12 months of the flood, wasn't certain if the centri was removed from first owner or after the flood, therefore unsure the state of the PCM progamming.

Initial startup was met with fail safe limp mode with 3 DTC error codes, one of which is a forced idle condition essentially disabling the ETC (Electronic Throttle Control, a.k.a. gas pedal). After much troubleshooting ultimately ended up replacing the manual trans engine harness with auto trans harness (had to modify a couple items and remove unneccesary stuff) The factory manuals proved invaluable particularly at this stage of the project. Once this was solved, ordered a set of BAMA tunes.

Getting closer to shakedown:

No way could I pull all this off in a day, nearly took a day just to post each of these updates :)

Initial goals we're to complete this car as one to drive to track events as I didn't have a tow vehicle worthy enough nor a trailer. That all changed last year when both became available at prices that I couldn't turn down.

The latest rounds of activities wrapped up this past August. Early August, Hurricane moved under it's own power after a nearly 4 year hiatus.

In preparation for the shakedown, borrowed the Drivers side recaro from the street/show car. Loaded up and headed to Gingerman Raceway with Mohawk Track Experience. Hurricane ran flawlessly without a single issue!

Considering my day job finds me sitting behind a monitor and keyboard as an IT staff, and first time attempting something this drastic, it felt GREAT to have a successful shakedown.

This is the stage Hurricane is currently sitting. Next up is to find out what is absolutely necessary to pass inspection to receive the rebuilt title (merely for future unlikely resale value). Planning a couple of track events this season, with hopes to have full roll cage installed next winter (building up the funds). This will be a add stuff as time and money allows type build.

You can run without mufflers? You should see what we have to do to pass sound at Laguna Seca!

Around here no issues. I've seen the pics of what you guys go through to point the sound opposite of the meters!
