GT350R Ring Lap Time

I'm sure this is complete BS but it's fun to think the GT350R put down a lap time faster than a GT3 RS. ;)

"he 2016 Shelby GT350R has clocked a blistering-fast 7:32.19 at the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife. That’s nearly 5 seconds faster than the Camaro Z/28’s well-groomed 7:37.40 time, and even a second faster than a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

According to the fresh report, the GT350R clocked this time back in September of 2014, and was “easily repeatable”. The (trusted) source also claims that the ‘base’ GT350 is “within a few seconds” of the ‘R’ package, but no specific lap times were given for the base model.

The GT350R is a pretty substantial upgrade over the GT350. The ‘R’ package gets a unique chin splitter, an aluminum rear bumper beam, and “unique performance chassis tuning” as standard equipment. On top of all the Track Package goodies that come optional on the base GT350, you also get MagneRide magnetic dampers, a wider front track, increased spring rates, and a lowered ride height, coolers for the engine/transmission/differential, and selectable drive modes. Not to mention massive 15.5″ carbon-ceramic rotors clamped by six-piston Brembo calipers."

And the one we saw on the ring didn't have the extra downforce of that new large spoiler so it'll be even faster now right!?!? Lol

It is fun to think this is true though. Although unlikely to be correct especially for that source...same to say ford is getting rid of the v8...I'll take any extra speculation I can get to hold me over until ordering at which time i will not sleep until it's in my driveway lol

That same website says their "trusted source" has told them the MSRP for the GT350R will be exactly $69,995.

That is probably closer to the truth....

I suspect the time would have to be in that neighborhood...they've got to make it faster than the z28...and, if that's the case, it'll be close to a (last gen) gt3 rs.

The time is believable as the 7.2RS was on MPSC not the MPSC2 which is much better though not as good as the Trofeo R. Me thinks the GT350 would be about 2 to 3 sec slower on the MPSC2. I think the Z/28 ran 7:35 + on a slightly wet lap.

Now you early adopters get busy and shake this BEAST down on the track

Hmmm, Evo is claiming they heard the same time. It would be nice if it's true.

"Ring-a-Ding-DING! GT350R Allegedly Pokes Hole in Z/28’s Nürburgring Time
January 26, 2015 at 6:39 pm by Davey G. Johnson

Has the GT350R shown the Z/28 its taillights around Germany’s Nürburgring?

As of yet, there is no independent confirmation on this, but British mag Evo is claiming that Ford’s new Shelby GT350R has lapped the Nürburgring in 7:32.19, more than a second faster than Chevy’s monstrous Z/28, which did the deed in 7:37.47.

Prior to the GT350’s unveiling at last year’s L.A. Auto Show, a source told us to expect a car that would run close to the Z/28, though it might not turn in quite the same performance figures as the track-focused Camaro. He assured us that we’d see a true competitor to the bow-tie track rat at the Detroit show—one capable of knocking it off its modern-day roadgoing Trans-Am–car pedestal.

When we found out that Ford had gone to the trouble and expense of fitting carbon-fiber wheels on a car that will retail for less than $100,000, we were inclined to believe our source’s claims. This new rumor does nothing at all to dispel our faith in that belief. Obviously, we can’t wait to put an R through our Virginia International Raceway torture test.

You may recall that at last year’s Lightning Lap, the Z/28 came within a tenth of a second of Ferrari’s F12berlinetta and posted a 1.16 lateral-grip number—giving it skidpad parity with the Porsche 918 Spyder. Have we reached peak super(pony)car? Likely not, as the next Camaro is due to be significantly lighter and will be based on GM’s Alpha platform—the basic guts that underpin the sweet-handling Cadillac ATS and CTS. Fifty-one years after Plymouth and Ford launched the segment, the battle for ponycar supremacy rages on. Rage on, superponycars. Rage on."

I lived near the Nurburgring in Germany for almost 5 years…that is a very good lap time. The Nurburgring is a very fast course so high horse power cars benefit. There are two spots on the track were cars can exceed 200mph. One of the straights is about 2 miles long to put things in perspective. That's the only reason the GT500 posted a descent time was because it was so fast down the straights.

I'm happy with the time

1. I don't know where these #'s come from so I don't know if I should trust them.
2. if it's faster than a Pagani Zonda and an outgoing GT3 RS, then it's plenty fast. Faster than 99.9% of drivers can ever hope to exploit.

Its interesting when you look down the list under the GT 350 that the dates the lap time were posted seems quite a few years back, either thats manufacturers not wanting the data out there or new cars just dont cut it like the previous metal
