The weight break is probably due to brakes and tires, the hybrid 15" tires are not as nearly as good as the radial slicks and the brakes are only 12.75" with the 15" wheels and overheat fast! Brakes are the one thing I have had a hard time getting used to in my TA2 car, I got spoiled by the 14" stoptechs on my mustang.

That sounds exciting! This series?
What's gonna be running 15" wheels?
Lots of tube frame cars. Bad fast ones too.
Yes you get more brake in an 18” wheel but the cars are light and fast.
Definitely a huge advantage over an old stock body mustang.

Looks like the June event at BW is a with NASA SoCal, so if come down we can compare, I'll have my TA2 car in SU.
My 2nd track day ever was at buttonwillow….what I remember was that I didn’t like it. Very narrow and sharp corners thrown in there for seemingly no reason. It will be interesting to see if my opinion has changed now that I’ve had some more experience on road courses.

I plan on using the same A/R series Hoosiers I’ve been running.
Not sure how much faster a Michelin slick is or even if they have something in my size. Tires are open, is there a better choice?

Hmmmmm...That's 6 lbs. 14.2 oz. each door (16 ounces in a pound) so doesn't that total come to 13 lbs. 12.4 oz. and counting? :)
Even better.

Maybe you can find some castoffs?? I found that used Dunlop 300/680-18 slicks gave me the identical lap times as new 315/30-18 R7"s. My attic is full of used Dunlops waiting for a return to the track one day.

The Michelin or Pirelli slicks are a few seconds faster than the Hoosier for sure. And not any more expensive. If you can get the Mustang down to the 5.8lb/hp and run on slicks, you should be right there with the tube framed cars. The cambered rear that you already have is a big equalizer. Get some weight out of that thing!!

What are the payouts like? I didn't see much on that. The entry fees are pretty high, so wondering if it's actually worth it.

The GT car field looks really light. The champion only went to 3 of the 7 race weekends last year. 3 of the races had no GT cars at all. It sounds like a great format, but without 4-5 cars in GT most of the payout benefits are not there.

Maybe I'll enter under USTCC for the June BW race. It's close to me and I can see what it's all about without having to tow 9hrs to Thunderhill. And I won't have to put mufflers on the car...

In previous years there were more cars, but I guess Covid hurt them and it hasn't quite come back since so they are reaching out to me and others to come fill the field.
There are a bunch of us on the fence and everybody's waiting to see what everybody else is going to do so, I'm leading the quest at this point.
The money isn't huge, but its something like 400/500 to win. You have to jump through some weird hoops to register and there's a 400.00 fee just to become a part of it so just running one race might not be worth it.
I'm hoping a bunch of us misfits go and there are some T/A and world challenge cars also interested so it could maybe be a thing.
Id love to get one more championship with one more sanctioning body to bookend my amateur racing career if that's possible as this will be my last year in a racecar.
But who knows....I might suck and that would not be so much fun. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
Stay tuned.

The problem with cars like mine is that its not really built enough for an AIX car proper, but its too built for a Touring car. (they don't like my aluminum dash) so I'm in a weird place.
SCCA has some issues and so does NASA around here so a lot of us are looking for someplace to land that doesn't require 1000 hp and sequential transmissions to be competitive.
TT is no interest to me, my strength is in battle....outside of that there are plenty of guys who can run fast laps without the slicing and dicing aspect of W2W.
Faster than me by quite some measure. So I guess we'll see what happens.

Faster than A7's?
Every time I see (saw..) a competitor show up with some new Michelin slicks, I assumed he was going to be quite a bit faster then usual. I do know that the Michelines are about 1.5seconds faster then a new set of dunlops in the 911 GT3 Cup series where I mooch my used tires from. And the dunlops they castoff with about 10 cycles, are still as fast as a new set of R7's
