After renting and borrowing for the last year or so, I finally decided to buy a car trailer. I picked up this 18ft trailer from a fellow racer last week. This one came with an E-Track system, straps, Race Ramps, winch, and so on. On that list of projects for the trailer is a rack to mount my bicycle and possibly a rock guard to protect the front of my car and/or bike.

Below is a CAD model that I'm using to check fitment:

Bike Rack Requirements:
  • Must mount in front of the car
  • Must not require the removal of any bike wheels
  • Must have room clearance for my winch below the crankset
  • The ability to be mounted with the E-Track system and removed when not needed is optional

Does anybody on here have anything similar on their trailer that I could use for inspiration? Thanks in advance.

Many folks have a shield with diamond plate at the front of the trailer and that would be perfect to also mount your bike behind. It would protect the front end of your car from rocks, etc. when traveling and should be easy to attack some supports to the back to tie up your bicycle.

I have gotten by for years with just two jugs and a full tank, but then most of the tracks I frequent have fuel very close by and I can refill them or just drive over.

6 sounds a bit excessive. Is there a joke that I’m not catching?

I should be able to throw one on the trailer somewhere, but I don’t think I’ll need to bring one on most trips.
On a track weekend in my V6 I burn anywhere from 80-120 Litres of fuel. 6 cans doesn’t seem to crazy, I also normally bring some extra incase anyone needs some to get home etc…

My unmodified Dark Horse burns more than two tanks full of gasoline per HPDE day.

In the past I’ve been fine with arriving on a full tank and having a 5 gal can to top off before the last session if needed. I’ll look into added fuel storage if needed.

I recommend waiting until you have the car loaded on the trailer and optimized its position for tongue weight and stability. Take a couple of trips to find the best position for your tow vehicle. Less critical the heavier and longer the tow vehicle is (ie. 1/2ton or larger truck), but pretty important for SUVs.

You may also find you want to carry a spare set of wheels/tires more than anything else. So your track day does not get lost for a flat, bent wheel, or bad weather (rains/streets).

I see much more electric scooters for their ease of use and backing these days

I've seen this too, especially at autocrosses. The scooters work well if you are staying on pavement. I prefer the bike because I can do a little bit of off-roading

Saw a guy put a bike rack mount on the front of the futura. Pretty cool need to do that bent welded clamp on. I burned a full tank plus the 4 cans 2 days. Going to need more and no where else to put it. The trailer is too small inmo but pretty cool but i have issues with it. Expensive and i still scrape splitter and no room for parts/tool/cans. The tire rack is good and the guard is good

It’s all a learning process
