Picked up some new wheels to fit new calipers. Was hoping to get some more HPDE time in on the Contis that came with the car. But no such luck. New tires needed now. Speed is intermediate HPDE. Brakes are 4 pot brembos with track day pads. 2011 coyote with stock engine and mild suspension. Street to track driving. Tire class in 200-300 wear range. Size is square 285/35/19. Priorities:

Cheap- Still early in this build, so need a tire to learn with.
Consistent grip- Something with a decent sweet spot and won’t fall apart with heat.

that’s about it. Not so concerned with peak grip as long as it is summer tire level. I know about the class favorites like PSS or PS4s. RS4 another choice if available. But what else is out there? Everyone usually has that tire recommendation that is cheap, sticky enough and surprising for what it is. What is yours?

Rs4. They last forever. Better grip than ps4. Cheaper. Check also the khumo 730
Or nexen (better grip but takes longer to warm)
Lastly the conti EC 200tw (trackdaytires) are endurance 200tw (similar to
Rs4)
Ps4 is waaay over rated. There are better options. Dont buy them.

flyhalf has a good point here!!!!!!!!!!!!!........Choose your shoes wisely......make your best choice wisely..........performance AND pricewise......there are ALOT of options out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if you're looking for a daily street tire that can be used on track, or a track tire that you can drive to the track but swap out for daily driving. Also, being based in New England, I'm guessing you're willing to give up some dry performance in favor of wet performance, especially if it's your daily tire as well.

I'd be looking at the "Endurance 200" and "Budget UHP" categories in the GRM tire guide.

For Tire Rack, that's similar to the Max. Perf. Summer and UHP Summer categories.

For relatively cheap daily street /occasional track tire in the size you want, I'd be looking at the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 and the Conti Extreme Contact Sport 2.

Checked around for rs4 and 730 in 285/35/19. Not seeing them.

I guess more of a daily street tire that can take the track. Although I don’t mind daily driving a 200tw tire.

I was at the Firestone shop getting tires for my truck. Asked for a price on GY SC3. Price was 1500 installed but there was no stock. Then the guy suggested the Indy 500 tires. He said real cheap, like 950 cheap. I started asking myself how bad they can be at that price.

"I guess more of a daily street tire that can take the track" - it depends entirely on how fast and hard you drive the car on track.

As a novice to intermediate level, I tracked my car on mulitple sets of PS4S for years, and more recently conti ECS02. In my experience, they are the epitome of daily street tire that can take track(Supercar 3 too). I love these tires for daily driving, spirited driving, and light track days at a novice/intermediate level. They are in my opinion the absolute best "daily street tires that can take the track".

Also, for context, as of my last track day, I feel that I am now into advanced level and my ECS02 tires on -2.25 camber show it.

I would also wait a bit to see how the newly released INDY500 V2 perform before buying the original 10 year old INDY500 model tires.

They're a little noisey and the grip limit isn't like the top level tires. All in all, though, they wear well and are completely usable tires.

I would agree with Rodwpnz on the Conti Extreme Contact Sport 02s, a newer generation tire than the PS4S and it both my experience and in tests with Tire Rack a faster , quieter, better riding tire. Friends running them on Porsches are pleased with the improvements over the Michelin. As someone who likes Michelins I do also agree strongly ,like Flyhalf, there are just many tires better for street and track. Dave_W let the list from Grassroots Motorsports and do take time to peruse this list, it is quite valid and may save you some time wondering if a tire your friends recommend is a strong candidate.
Remember the fact that all your friends may be running some off the wall tire and they are all running similar times may just be a subtle indication they are all ................................slow, ha!

I have the Conti on my Mustang and they are definitely a pleasant street tire as far as performance rubber goes. Decent grip at the track too but I did end up getting an extra set of wheels that I put Hankook RS4 on for track days.
