Washing your car with a Tiger racing hood installed

I have a Tiger racing hood on my Boss. How do I wash the car with this hood on? Should I tarp the motor and then shut the hood? Those louvers are so big I'm worried about a bunch of water getting under the hood and onto various parts in the engine bay. I know if you run the car on a wet day the air being extracted through the louvers keeps things mostly dry but standing still in my driveway I'm worried about it. Any advice on to safely wash the car with that hood on?

It really shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't blast a wiring harness with a pressure washer but the engine compartment is designed to get wet from time to time. If you have an exposed conical air filter, cover that otherwise if it's just the stock airbox, have at it.

So zero concern about the alternator getting wet or anything else? I'm not gonna hit it with a pressure washer, just a hose with a nozzle on the end and some soap from a towel in a bucket. I suppose more modern cars like these don't have the issue with electrical connectors which can let water in and things like distributors that DO NOT like water getting in. I guess the paranoia comes from having helped a friend clean his engine bay and he said we didn't need to tarp anything. Water got into his dizzy and it took like 3 days to figure out what was up. Ended up needing to junkyard a new dizzy because his got super flakey even after we drained and dried it for a day. I've really never washed engine bays since.

I washed mine with a pressure washer and then wiped things down as some water will get in, but not as bad as one might expect. I washed standing in the front and I will admit the first time I did it I was concerned like you so I put a blanket over the motor. You drag out a wet blanket if doing that and since it wasn't super wet I stopped that after one try.

Good luck and you will still need to wipe down some areas of the motor.

Cut a large trash bag and lay it over everything under hood and go. It will just put your mind at ease, not really needed. I wash my car with the louvered hood all the time, just no high pressure spray and nothing will happen. Can use an electric leaf blower of low pressure air to blow it dry if any get on there as well. Definitely not a big deal, a lot of water goes in through the radiator on cars and trucks every rain storm on the highway, modern cars all have weather tight connections, very ratre to see issues.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a go the next chance I get. This new born is really putting a damper on my garage time.
