2021 GT500 Harness Bar Recommendations & Race Seat Questions

I'm looking for something very basic that can be installed without permanent modifications to the car (no cutting/drilling). If I get any more serious than that I'll just put a roll bar in. Sell me on something?

I don't have the Recaro's so I'll probably start putting a real race seat in for track days. How do you deal with all of the electronics and HVAC system (heated and cooled.....especially coold)?

Thanks!!!

BMR makes a harness bar that bolts in really easy and requires little cutting. It can be removed with 4 bolts after installing the mounting brackets. I went this way initially and it uses existing hardware to install, no drilling.

As far as the seat go you just unplug them and bolt in your race seat. You will have a warning light on your dashboard, but it does not affect the car at all. Just bolt in your new seats, install your harness and you are ready to go. I still change my seats from comfort seats in between trips to the track. It takes 20 minutes to swap them out after you do it a couple of times.

I went with a roll bar after one year of the harness bar.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Good news on the seats. Easy in, easy out.

I really am leaning toward a bar. I've put a couple of the Watson bars in. Nice bar. And I can go pick one up they're so close. And probably get a discount..... The rear seat delete is a C+ though. What are you running? Is anyone out there offering a bar with a really nice rear seat delete. That chintzy stuff drives me crazy!

I sure would like a red bar.......

They are bloody heavy and the doors need to be all the way open and try not to scratch anything on the way out.
The ford performance rear seat delete is rather nice. It just blends in and disappears.

I went with a Watson half cage which bolts in apart from 2 holes in the boot area. And there is just a bit of trimming of the side plastics.

Depending on long term goals or delusion like myself, it's a road car, haha.
A Recaro Sportster CS is a nice dual purpose seat. The factory Recaro is a fat leather armchair and you will slide around regardless.
Suits a harness and is adjustable and comes with a cloth insert. No sliding, and i have bounced off curbs, pulled big G's and been comfortable and secure. They do have a heating option as well.

MMR or BMR? I can't find a MMR bar.

Yeah, that's my big dilemma right now. harness bar or roll bar.

I keep saying to myself "It's a street car, it's a street car, it's a street car......... :)

Rear seat delete bookmarked! Thanks!

I've run the Watson bar on a couple cars. Nice unit. And I'm only 30min from them so no shipping. And I have a buddy who works there so discount. Dear Lord, save me from myself! "It's a street car, it's a street car, it's a street car........:)

I just ordered a Sparco PRO 2000. I won't be running it on the street so may as well go all the way. And I'm a Sparco dealer so that helps a lot.

I have a CMS roll bar. Nice part about it is the holes are only drilled for the main hoop in a structural beam that cannot be seen. The rear legs bolt to rear seat belt mounts. Schrader rsd kit I got from them like this - looks good and can hold a bit of cargo too.. https://lmr.com/item/RSD-1516/2015-mustang-rear-seat-delete-black-coupe. Overall the combo saved a little weight too - 5-10 lbs.

Join the club, Direct quote from myself about a battery location.
"Exactly where it is in my 944, leave me alone in my delusion that its still a road car. Well it does have air con and a full interior."

Well the aircon may need to go, Cobrajet manifold and extra rpm may kill the compressor real quick.

Yours is for safety so it doesn't count as mods. Still road car. Honest. ;)

It's weird that CMS bolts into stock seatbelt holes for kickers, but you drill holes for main hoop. Watson/Fathouse, you bolt in main hoop, but then drill holes for kickers.

I did not want to drill any holes, started with Fathouse main hoop and made kickers that bolt into all six points that stock rear seatbelts would mount to.
Figured if I'm going "bolt in", might as well use as many points as possible.

Rear inside panels are nothing special on GT500, so bought a set from JY to hack up. Made my own rear seat delete from marine carpet.

I read something about harness bars that I never thought of. If you roll over you are trapped sitting straight up and down by the 4-5pt belts unlike a 3pt that will let you scrunch up. No overhead protection and trapped straight up. I'm out.

I talked to Watson bar. I've used them before. I like them. They're local. And now they come on red too (the car color). I'm probably going to go with Watson. That's a little down the road though.

Got screwed by a eBay seller. The Sparco seat base I need is out of stock everywhere. The eBay seller has them listed in stock and has an active listing. Four days after ordering it they tell me I won't have it until everyone else has it (including my own distributor that I get it at cost from).Dirtbags. I'm not sure I want to go on the 17th now. I can't stay in the comfort seats on the street!

I just put an email into my distributor/rep to see if he can call Sparco and scare me up a blem, test unit, something used, etc so I have the base in time. I'm bummed out. I hate liars (the eBay seller) and I don't like having to pull teeth to get to the track. It makes me feel like I'm forcing it too much and inviting something bad to happen. I know, I know. racer superstition coming though.

I'm going to throw the proverbial grenade here. A lot of cages i've seen on TMO don't comply with recognized standard construction that complies with race regulations. Comparing regulations from FIA, NASA, Motorsport Australia, Motorsport UK they are all fundamentally identical.
NASA rules from 2023 attached. They make it damn hard to find their rules. Have a read of section 15.6 starting on page 45.
You may never compete but i'd want whatever system i'm using to be built to this standard.
