Ok, since I installed BMR front and rear handling springs with FP Track handling struts and shocks I have been plagued with the front spring pig tails and the first coil binding on each other. This creates a ridiculous amount of noise and is not useable for any kind of serious driving. Since BMR’s only guidance is to remove the Vorshlag plates and install the stock upper isolators, the opposite direction that I want to go, I have decided to remove the front springs and relegate them to the trash heap where they belong.

May I ask for recommendations for front springs? The car is a dual use car. Once this issue is resolved I plan on doing 3-4 HPDE events a season and most likely the same number of autocross events. I feel that I will probably do fewer autocross events and more HPDE as I improve my skill level.

So far in my digging around I seem to end back with CM-5310-YB FP springs. Lower rate than the BUMR springs, and why I am asking for input from the TMO group. I am running 285/35/19 Michelin PS4S on 10” wide wheels at the moment.

I am all ears at the moment and if anyone has a set of springs that fit my needs for my ‘17 GT PP1 please let me know.

What's you street/track split for driving? What are you trying to build?
The car is occasionally driven. I want to be able to drive it on the street and enjoy it when I do. I put the springs that I have on it now because I thought that it would provide a better handling car on the street and be something that would suffice for me to learn to drive on track. I do not want a track car. I am too old to become a competitive racer. I just want to get out there learn, have fun, and have something that will fill the bill and not become a money pit.

If there's anything I've learned in this game it's that the swapping out "lowering springs" looking for better handling is a guessing game at best. The amount of money spent playing mix and match with lowering springs and stock replacement dampers would have gotten you a long way towards a good set of decent coilovers where actual data exists.

You could use the ford handling pack camber plates, which use oem isolated perches. They will still get you a decent amount of camber for occasional track and autocross use.

I did run Steeda handling springs on vorshlag plates with oem style upper perch with no significant noise issue. Occasional odd clunk but it was pretty rare.

My original plan was to use the FP track Handling Pack. After paying for it and waiting 10+ months with no firm delivery date from a well known Ford dealer I decided to go on my own. I got the FP TRACK HANDLING struts and shocks and bought the springs after reading of some others success using them. Well, lesson learned.

Rather than dump the entire kit, I would like to find a suitable front spring that doesn’t bang on itself and maybe even get out to the track this year.

The Vorshlag plates that I have don’t utilize the isolators. Given that I have already spent the money on them I would prefer to solve the problem rather than buy more parts. It appears that I can replace the front springs with new units mentioned in my OP for about $150. I posted in the hope that someone might have experience with them or a better spring. But, I do appreciate everyone’s input so far.

Had a very good conversation with a former Maximum Motorsports Engineer this past weekend who was eagle eyeing my car at a car show. As we discussed what I had done, and the problem that I have been having I shared the photos of the front springs with him. Upon seeing them he pointed out the design failure in them and gave me a spring 101.

His recommendation was to remove the springs front and rear, and relegate them to the scrap pile. Contact FP or FR, whatever they go by today, and they will be able to provide springs that are designed to work with the FP shocks and struts on the car. Further added that most aftermarket suppliers do not design and produce their springs. They are made by third party manufacturers. Ford Performance on the other hand designs their spring specifications and most are made by Eibach.

So, this is the path that I am going to take and will let you all know how it works out. As mentioned previously, my goal is not W2W racing. I just want to get out on the track and learn how to drive effectively and quickly while having a good time.
