Any of you see a big benefit to going to an aftermarket 10r80 valve body?

Most of us here know what a Mach 1comes with and most of us here are track junkies. You’re asking for suggestions and we are offering based on lots of experience and knowledge. Good luck figuring it out. Now I’m going to get to the Cars & Coffee sections. 😅

My transmission is malfunctioning and the dealer is saying “I have driven excessively”
They mention the tires look like they have been excessively used, etc.

In other words I think they are going to try and VOID my warranty! and not pay for the repair of my faulty production transmission!

I have just tried to present my side, and that is the opposite, that I have not beat the crap out of my car and broken the transmission. Actually I enjoy my car and take proper care of of it as a result.

I want the dealer or manufacturer to pay tor the proper fix or a new improved transmission!
Even if I have done HPDE days in my car, Ford literally tells you to track the car, the car comes with track, oriented, parts and features.
Ford has steadily built the Mustang into an all-around performer, as capable on a road course as it is on a drag strip, and the company’s marketing and PR efforts steadily push the car’s track capabilities.

Why does my car have: two track specific modes one named track and one named drag? You have to push the OK button to verify that you’re only going to use those modes on track. Also, why does my car come with RICARO racing seat that you can run harness straps through? Why does my car come with two splitters in the front and a wing on the back? Why does it have heat exchanger for the motor oil, the transmission, the differential?
Also, the car has track specific gauges that tell you about your G-Force for cornering and braking, etc., etc.
The MACH 1 with the handling package comes with these tires from the manufacturer. These tires are on the car at the dealership when you buy and test drive the car!

I have not modified the transmission or engine.

I do not want to pay for repair or replacement of my transmission when it is still under warranty!

Maybe I should’ve posted my questions in the car and coffee section.

I still think you might be missing the point, we beat the crap out of our cars because we feel a very strong need to be very fast. Check the lap times of the drivers here on TMO and compare them to a regular cars like McLaren's and Porsches.. Remember its TRACK MUSTANGS ONLINE. A great group of very open drivers who are always willing to help you be faster.

Send any Dealer communications to Ford Customer Service and tell them the situation. If you have any modifications including running non DOT tires they may still decline warranty coverage, but if not they will back you up. Remember, they can see a ton of data from the ECU and Body Control Modules to determine how the car was operated. Big Brother is everywhere. If the car has been track day run on OEM level service parts then they should honor it. You must consider the broad scope of the statement regarding "non OEM modifications, driver error or abuse." For example, if you ever had transmission overheat warning(s) they can claim abuse. I know its' BS, but it all depends on how the dealer communicates with Fords' Regional Service manager, which happens whenever a major vehicle component requires replacement. Ford has lost billions on warranty costs, again not your fault, but they are being much more strict than when the Boss 302 and GT350 cars were released when it comes to just replacing engines and transmissions. Also remember, dealers make actual hours, plus parts mark up on Customer paid repair, they make Ford book rates on Warranty coverage. The difference is huge and it is their self interest is very evident. Trying to find performance friendly dealer service departments may help. Good luck with the situation.

Where are you at in Commifonia? There are tons of Dealers that will support you and know that the car is made for the track. We don't need a copy and paste of what tires and track modes are for. Some of us have dealers our area and some don't. If you go to Grody Ford in SoCal well they are horrible. Kurt is a DB and in for profit. The Ford Store in Morgan Hill is great. There is one in Walnut Creek that Ale takes his car to after the track and is barley street legal and they fixed his under warranty.

Most of us are here to help or point you in the right direction and have been here since the early days when this was Boss MustangsOnline. there might be a collective hive of knowledge.

But I need to get to my coffee and get my Shitstang on the lift. Does that count for C&C? If not I have failed at attendance. 😂😂😁

Agreed, kinda strange that he has an issue. Sounds like the service writer or manager needs to get with it.

A quick search of the internet also shows your patterns as well. Do you really want a Supra/BMW, might have the same issues as their bikes.

Whoa, how did we get from asking about valve bodies to dealers voiding warranties and refusing repairs???

Sounds like your dealer is being a dork, likely because they don't make (much) money on warranty repairs. If the vehicle is under warranty and something breaks, it should get repaired. It's usually spelled out pretty clearly in the owner's manual (and addendums). Unless "abuse" can be proven, but "abuse" is not some worn tires - it is probably also spelled out in the manual. Realize that Ford only has the obligation to repair the vehicle to original service level, unless Ford has determined that the original service level was insufficient (usually via a TSB). You will not get any "improved" parts unless called for in a TSB that is indicated by your exact problem condition, or through normal part number supercession.

As mentioned above, I'd do 2 things - 1) make a new post (maybe in the General forum) asking for track-friendly dealers in your area using an appropriate title (e.g., Looking for Track-Friendly Dealer Service in <insert your area>) and 2) if you absolutely have to deal with your current dealer and they actually decline warranty work, escalate it to Ford corporate customer service. Most owner's manuals even list procedures and contact info for escalating service claims.

The fact that Ford has created a comprehensive service procedure like TSB 22-2428 actually shows that they DO stand behind their product. Other manufacturers might have tried to brush off an occasional hard shift by telling people, "That's normal, they all do that." But Ford has said, "That's not normal, and we're willing to tear down and rebuild the entire tranny to make it right."

Don't waste time thinking about swapping transmissions. The car and automatic transmission are tied together by multiple computers and programs specific to that combination. It would be easier and likely cheaper to sell your car and buy a manual-equipped Mach 1 w/ HP (which uses the Tremec, not the MT-82). Or buy a used Corvette C6 ZO6, or nearly any Miata with a stick.

Now that it is at a dealer I would think that they already documented what they think and have seen.
I hope I am just being overly negative and they realize I did NOT ABUSE my car. Obviously I hope they fix it properly with the updated parts under warranty.
I do truthfully love my car when it works properly!
At the same time many hopes and dreams are crushed every day and I am trying to be as objective, and educated as possible for what may result.
I think it is good to look at all options, and the positive and negatives that go with them.

OK, so I have the info, but I'm not sure you've exhausted all of your options yet. Try doing what those guys suggested, and go to a more performance oriented dealer and let me know how it goes.
This is really the nuclear option, it's traceable, and not to get given out before you use up all the normal options.

The short: the dealer is not communicating with me. On day 25 of Ourisman Ford having my car, almost no communication.
I called I think for the seventh time since the service writer asked me to call him. Yesterday I did finally talk to the Service Manager. He said he didn’t know anything about my car but claimed he would call me back. He had not called me back. I then attempted to call the director of the service and parts department. Again I got put into voicemail Where I left him a message and asked him to call me. Now it is the next day dec. 12, and still no attempts of communication by them.
I would appreciate any kind of assistance in getting the latest dated upgraded transmission put in my car or to have it fully rebuilt, etc.
I don’t like giving negative information about a good company. But I feel like I’ve been more than forgiving and patient with this dealership.
25 days for them to communicate seems extremely patient to me. I know of no reason why they have not made any attempts to communicate.
I am willing to take you up on your offer to communicate with a person that has the ability and authority to willingly fix this situation for the benefit of me and them.

My 2022 MACH 1 w/9k miles and infamous defective 10R80 transmission. The first of the links are 1) of a series of videos educating us about the 10X80=Ford 10R80, GM 10L80 by SIU= southern Illinois University.

First noticed problems and took it 2x to another dealer in another state at around 3000 miles or so. I also took it to an independent shop and they said my transmission had flairing issues etc. and I should take it to a dealer because it was still under warranty.

My car has been since Nov. 19 2024 at the Ourisman Ford dealership so far for 24 days. Chris told me they tried putting a new valve body on it under warranty. Chris said that did not fix it and that my transmission has internal damage.

My research tells me 1 of the many problems is this transmission developed by Ford and GM uses steel contacting aluminum and of course wears the aluminum down and fills the valve body with the shavings. Also the CDF drum is a known fault/failure where a bushing inside the CDF drum slides out of position allowing a Teflon seal to fail, resulting in pressure loss. Also, for some reason they thought it was a good idea to put a P3 gear in the transmission that only has bearings on one side, so of course steel rubbing on steel, eventually it's going to eat each other up .

To be fair Ted Britt in Fairfax refused to diagnose and fix the trans. When speaking with the mechanic he claimed he couldn't reproduce the problems. So when I asked him to test drive it with me he refused. I then asked him to put a data logger on it so that they could see exactly what and where the problems were happening. The Mechanic again refused so to my knowledge Ted Britt made zero effort!

I have called 5 times since, and not 1 return call or allowed to communicate with a human. At 13:13 wed. Dec. 11, I called again today to find out from Jose the service manager that they did not have a clue what was going on. He said he would call me back.

Now at 15:30 I'm going to call and try speaking with the Service and parts Director Thomas Miller.

15:35 I called again and got sent to Thomas Miller's voicemail and left another message. We will see when I get communication from Ourisman and what is going on with my vehicle.

Dec. 13 11:19 still NO CALL,NO ATTEMPT BY THEM TO COMMUNICATE!

If Ourisman Ford does the right thing and communicates with me and fixes or replaces my trans. with the latest updated and upgraded parts, PROPERLY,I will then update my review for the better!

Have you tried another dealer?
I just talked to a tech and he said any dealer could absolutely diagnose that trans. You need to find another dealer.
There are 2 ( sorta) near me, Brookesville Ford, of whom I would not urinate down their throats if their lungs were on fire, and Nick Nichols Ford, who is an absolutely fantastic dealer, and I could not praise them enough.

yeah i learned something today and @blacksheep-1 thank oyu for that new terminology.

@Mtnbikerva - It really sounds like you got a bad dealership. Unfortunately Ford does not control the dealers and they can be shady. There are some in my area that are great and then there are others that get the Blacksheep urination or lack or urination treatment.
My car has been at the dealership for 25 days now. I’m trying to get them to communicate with me about what if anything has been going on with my car. at one point, they did tell me that they put a valve body in it under warranty, but that didn’t fix it. They’re claiming that there’s internal damage. I’ve had been having transmission problems since about 2,700 miles according to some paperwork I’ve got. Although I did notice on the paperwork, for some reason they never mentioned anything about the transmission problems took it in for. I found that disappointing and dishonest or just lazy.
I’ve called six or seven times and they refused to call me back. I did talk to this manager of the service department at one point he claimed he was gonna call me back, but he didn’t so that I called to try and get the next guy above him, the director I just got voicemail.
I’m thinking about going out tomorrow morning and having a talk with The Director of the service and parts department.
