Can you point me to your favorite source of car numbers? And say why you like them? Good quality, customer service, last longer, stay on better, what?

They have to stay on at speeds over 145 because I run my car at Road Atlanta, which has a long, high speed section with "turns" that do not require coming off full throttle.

I'd like to know they are reusable. Up until now I have used the organization's numbers.

I was planning to get magnetic, because I assumed that those might look great and last for years, but there is a closed thread here where several posted that they have had magnetic come off at lower speeds that my car will be doing, so I am leaning away from those now.

Could you share your experiences with me and share where you got your numbers? Good and bad experiences both welcome. Thank you in advance.

Magnetic will not stay put unless you tape them on. Your best best is to get a good vinyl stick on one you like,. I had my buddy make me a custom set and they have been on for about 5 years or longer now

5 years?

Do yours stay on full time? I ask because mine is mainly a street car, not mainly a track car. These numbers have to come off when I am finished with HPDE, which was the original attraction to magnetic. Do yours come off? Can they be re-used?

I just switched to TrackPlacks earlier this year when I switched numbers. I put mine on this past February and they still look great through ~10 track days but I have not removed them and re-applied them. They are a high quality number imo.

They will peel right off but they are not reusable. I don’t drive my car on the streets much. I also don’t care if I have numbers on my car. It’s a calling sign to other track rats

I also use autocrossdigits, but I added some magnetic insurance for the high-speed events. I documented it here. It's been working great for me at HPDE events.

Calling @DaveW for recommendations. He runs Solo Performance Specialties (SPS) and can supply TMO-logo and other number/class panels.

The info in the Materials selector on that page says magnetic is generally good up to 70mph, but can be used at higher speeds if you use tape to seal the leading edge of the panel to the car and keep air from getting underneath it.

One trick I use is to bevel the edges of the magnetic material at 45 deg., so air doesn't "stack up" at a 90 deg. edge and cause a high-pressure area that's more likely to peel the magnet off the car.

Given air flow vortices down the side of the car caused by the windshield, mirrors, wheel opening, etc., for high speed I'd tape down all the edges with good painter's tape to clean surfaces. I might even go around once with 3/4", press it down well, then go over that with 1-1/2" and press down again.
