...and plenty of it. So if any of you O.G. S197 experts around are up to babysitting this thread and project, TIA!
I've got to get my parts list figured out, knock over a bank or 3, and order this trans, and get moving again soon. Can I get some opinions and reasoning to ponder?
Facts
-2014 GT with essentially a stock powertrain. Nothing beyond CIA and cat-back exhaust in terms of power adders.
-Plan on running the powerplant like this as long as she will let me and hold up. At which point, a more built motor will go in. Hence the headroom of the Magnum swap.
-Rear appears to be a 3.55. Will regear if necessary to try and replicate the stock final drive ratios which have been really nice for this amount of power.
-Purpose is to build a bullet-proof HPDE car. I am chasing driving experiences, easy weekends, and not lap time. ...at least not yet.
-I still street it some, but my intent to move the build away from that. Streetability not really a priority.
-Intent is to share the seat with my oldest kid. He's a novice. He needs work (especially considering he accelerated the demise of the MT-82 in about 4 laps of COTA).
...so, a clutch that is forgiving of his fumbles and shelters the driveline some from shock loads is a goal.
High level questions
1. Ratios? Close ratio 2.66 -> .63? This makes MT-82 2-5 about = to 1-4 Tremec? There's only the 2 ratio packages to choose from right?
2. Clutch, here's where I'm befuddled. Too many choices.
I'll save you all my ideas of pros and cons, but again, saving the trans from poorly rev-matched shifts at the expense of clutch longevity is fine. Clutches are consumables after all.
My drag racing/ovelry-engineering build buddy is adamant we should put an adjustable clutch in it so we can tinker with and set base plate pressures as needed to preserve the driveline.
3. Flywheel? Should I really bother with putting a lighter flywheel on it? Would I feel it? Would it heat damage quicker and start chattering? ..I mean yes, but how soon/how much huh?
That's where I'm at. If I can come to a conclusion on these broad questions I can start making the grocery list.
Appreciate everyone's help, past, present, and future.
