Went to go for the 1st real ride and break in new Tremec XL , rear end and Exedy clutch. Backed it out of garage and pedal went to floor. Tried to pump it up for pressure and the TOB blowing out clutch fluid. And that’s new. Clutch lines are not leaking Which I was hoping was the problem.

I’ve over-extended 2 TOB’s now with the Tremec/HyperSingle setup. Kohr recommends using the 13-14 GT500 TOB coupled with an aluminum spacer they sell. Even with this setup, I’ve found that pedal travel has to be limited to keep from over extending. Maximum Motorsports makes this for the 11-14 models - still haven’t heard if anyone has made it work on the S550 pedal box.

At least the clutch isn't trashed. Did you measure to see if you had proper preload on the TOB during installation.

No. I figured a complete swap kit for S550 with everything but clutch would work. Even Exedy told me the hyper single would not need to be shimmed. At least it only set me back about $250.. and all my labor .

At least it wasn't a costly mistake since you can do your own removal and reinstall. This is not an uncommon swap. Exedy should have known of the issue with over extending the TOB. I have found with some of the bigger companies that tech support is luck of the draw. You may get someone who really knows the answer or someone who pretends to know. Out of curiosity, did you contact Exedy directly or read that shimming wasn't needed in some of their available literature?

Bill at Exedy worked at KoHR before he went to Exedy. I have used the hyper single with my MT82 with no problems. The problem must be with the Quick time Bell housing being deeper.

That is tough when you get bad advice from someone who should have known of the issue. Well at least it isn't a major set back. It must be something with the Magnum XL in the S550. I have an S197 with a Mantic twin disk. It is a 2011 that required the factory spacer under the TOB. I believe a year or two later they changed the MT82 case to longer require the spacer. I installed the Mantic with the MT82 initially and used the factory spacer under the TOB bearing and it was fine for 1,000 miles until the MT82 self destructed forcing the Tremec swap. I used the same Mantic clutch (with new 26 spline disks) and TOB when i swapped the Tremec in. The factory spacer was not needed. I only have about 1500 miles on the car since the swap and 2 track days, but it has been good so far. Good luck on sorting this all out and getting back on track.
