VA and NE Boss Owners, I have a question

So I'm bringing the Boss back to the east coast, to VA in January specifically. I need tires and would prefer going ahead and getting good performance tires and just not drive it another than getting into the area as we are likely buying a third car then. How worried should I be with an aggressive summer tire with possible snow/ice on the ground? I know it sounds dumb, but I'm curious if I can get away with not buying two sets of tires or compromising with an all season tire. I'll be driving it up from FL then looking for a house, so once it gets there, it's not moving except to its new garage.

Is it your daily driver? Or is it your second car?

I've had Mustang as daily drivers around the Norfolk/Hampton Roads area and have gotten around without issue on performance tires. The winters are usually pretty mild. However, once in a while we'll get a winter like last year with a good respectable snowfall that shuts everything down. Folks weren't moving around unless they had 4WD.

Well it'll be my DD initially in Jan. I don't know when we're buying the 3rd vehicle, maybe early spring. Don't know where we're be living yet, but I'll be working at the shipyards in NN initially.

If it snows like it did in the past 1-2 winters, then it will be very difficult to get around in the boss on summer tires, specially if you have a somewhat of a long drive.
Had a friend with a PP mustang that got around a mild winter ok with summer tires, but once we got decent amount of snow, the mustang wouldn't make it out of the parking lot. I've also driven through two mild winters with winter tires ok. One of the winters, the boss was my DD, the other was a weekend car.

So, it can be done on winter tires, but you may have to find other means to get around if it gets bad. Oh and clearance was on an issue for me sometimes (on stock suspension) with the trans scoop... it was like a mini snow plow ::)

Yeah, I definitely don't want to plow snow. So mild winter, it can be done but be careful. Otherwise, don't try it. Got it.

Snow is easy to drive in, it's the ice that will give you problems. I daily drove my '11 GT, lowered 1.5", on snow tires last winter and I live in Ohio. We had close to a foot on the ground for a week or two. I have a very steep driveway and had no trouble whatsoever. I think the tires are called Yokohama Iceguard.
