Don't roast me over the title. :) I'm getting ready to finish putting my '16 PP GT back together in order to sell it for a 17-19 low mileage GT350. Talking to a group of friends that have jumped on the '18+ 10speed wagon, someone made a comment & suggestion that set me back a moment. He said, the GT350 is already outdated and I should just wait out until the next Generation of Mustang comes out. Do you guys think it's outdated?

I like to think my cars are daily drivers but I've only put 10k miles on it in 3 years and that's mostly because weekend track trips & the club events are an hour away. I am not a competitive track guy, I do Autocross and club events but mostly I tinker and make vroom vroom noises in the garage.

Yes, Definitely drag racers. They have more time in the new models than I do so I thought maybe he could be right and I should ask. I've only driven one GT350 a few years ago but got to ring it out pretty good and it left an impression, lol.

Outdated. LOL
Really too subjective of a term. If the introduction of the 500 made the 350 outdated in some minds. OK.
My Boss is faster than the day I bought it. My 350 is faster still. Do they both still give me enjoyment? Yes. Is that why I bought them? Yep. So for me, neither is outdated.
Very Subjective on my part as well as on the part of the person(s) calling the 350 outdated.

🤔

Get new friends. Maybe ones that know how to heel toe. ;)

There is some small truth to what they say though. Many people would be faster behind the 10 speed regardless of the type of track. Just gotta address the cooling issues for road course work.

Get what will make you happy.

Getting a GT500 would be cool but I have a couple munchkins that'll probably want to go to some sort of college, lol.

What started all this is, I keep sinking money in the Base model GT and it just felt like I was stuck high centered spinning my wheels. I could just keep throwing money at it but since I can't commit to having a dedicated racecar or spend the 100k for a 500, it makes sense to get a Tech package GT350. Just nice enough on the inside and just raw enough on the pavement. I don't need the moon, just something more.

Maybe I’m not the guy to answer this for you. I have a stockish Boss, dual purpose ‘11 GT, and an ‘00 GT drag car...and want to build a V6 3.7L for a dedicated track car. And I’m perfectly happy co-driving my friend’s ‘02 WRX which is stored at my house.

Will the Tech Pack 350 really satisfy your needs? Or would you be trading one money pit for a new one?

As for a track toy I don’t feel it’s outdated at all. If people are considering it outdated due to the fact it has a great 6 speed and not all the tech nannies that make driving not as fun then I guess it is. IMHO the GT350 is going to be a car that will hold its own in the track community for a while. Even some of my friends that have the new GT500 prefer the GT350 on the track. It’s really all subjective and you should get what you want and makes you happy.

As an owner of two 18+ GT's, I'm curious to hear further about their in-depth explanation of how they believe the GT350 to be outdated. If memory serves me right, there weren't too many Mustangs using magnetorheological systems before it, and certainly not a flat plane crank that goes well past 8k. I had done so in a 4v Cobra many years ago, but back then, going above 8k was downright scary, a polar opposite when compared to the GT350's harmonious display of engineering. I'd love to have one, even if it is outdated, but since I don't have that kinda money, I'll just have to build up a GT and hope I've done enough homework to beat them come race day.

It's all relative. Any vehicle in this stage of a generational model cycle can be called outdated. We're at a point where everything we buy is outdated the moment we buy it. Newer technology comes out quickly now. It all depends on what you're looking for. Same goes for your friends. Their needs and wants might be different than yours.

Yep. Its a great time to be a car guy.

When a manufacturer "Updates" a model now, its more than new paint and stripes. Some of us lived through that era. Compare a 197 or 550 to a Mustang II and there you go.....The Mustang II is outdated.

Im still trying to comprehend this title.....i keep typing/deleting/typing/deleting what i want to say......i guess.....i dunno lol

edit: doing this while i, watching top gear from season one episode one marathon.....on season 4....

I drove a 19GT PP2 before buying the 16 GT350 I have. No regrets, I really feel its a simple, yet transcendent of mustang formula. The chassis setup is more refined, the brakes are the best I've ever felt in a street going car, the flat plane makes for a fun experience and sound, the tremec is great in shift effort and feel, the handling and power-on characteristics are dramatically better than the GT, and I love all the small touches from the hood line to materials that make the GT350 experience "more".

There's caveats sure, like early cars with spin-on filters or missing coolers are things you have to look at and manage, but I've been very critical of every car I've owned, and I've had the hardest time finding faults in the GT350. Thus, I don't find it outdated, I think its the best modern interpretation of the pony car.
