After many issues with my MT82 high RPM shifting, and the cars rev match, I decided to get a 6 speed sequential gearbox and paddle shift it. I looked into The Hollinger unit that MMR has packaged together , I looked into HGT, and 6XD for there offerings also. I really liked the price point of the HGT, but with them being over seas I wanted something from a US company. Since 6xd is only about 1.5hr away from my house I decided to go with them, with this, at least if problems arise they are close. They package a unit with the ECM throttle controller from X-ineering (the downshift blip module people), this unit handles cuts and blips so you can shift under full throttle without a clutch.

Well this adventure started out strong, did not have to fight my exhaust to remove it, the shifter was easy to remove since I had already removed the interior, and I had the transmission out in about an HR but unfortunately I found this chunk of engine block where one of the transmission mounts is located was broken, I hope since it’s Aluminum it can be tig welded. Also the QuickTime bellhousing did not fit apparently was ordered for an old school 5.0 and not a Coyote. Hopefully these setbacks won’t be to bad to get past.

Is that what this product from MMR is supposed to prevent?

While waiting on the right bellhousing and what to do about the broken block I did manage to get the paddle shifter installed and the air compressor for the air shifter.

I made a little progress and got the unit test fit into place to get the drive shaft measurements sent off. It is a tight fit in the tunnel but nothing had to be cut to make it work. Will build the rear cross member this weekend. Trying to have this together for a test run on our last TT event at Road Atlanta the first weekend in December.

Since I’m still waiting on some parts to get the transmission mounted I made a good bit of progress getting the wiring done. Had to fab a mount for the gear display, throttle cut arm, and reverse lockout release. I wanted to put all this where my radio is now but upon taking that apart to see what that would take I opted for the off to the side mount. Looked like the radio, ac/heat and start button was all on the same printed circuit board so it was not as easy as I thought.

Drive shaft came in and there was a warning label in the box about locking out the bushings on the rear diff. Since mine had not been done I had to get those ordered and installed. I was able to drive it a little thru my neighborhood. It needs some adjustment on the shift timing, but I think I’m taking it to a track day at CMP next Friday.

Well , we might need to have a Moderator delete your numerous identical postings as even the old farts on here got the info the first time - since it had pictures, ha!

Went to the track today and found a few issues. The first session I realized that the way the controller for the transmission cuts the ignition, the factory computer sees that as misfiring and sets a check engine light. When I checked the codes I had about 12 of them so I need to sort that out. I tried to just program them to record the event but not flash the engine light or limit power. The way HP tuners works you have to have a good internet connection so it can confirm license and I did not have a good connection at the track. In the next session my foot found the cable that goes from the throttle to the controller and I ended up pulling on it so hard it de pinned a few wires. I tried to push the wires back into the connector and did get it to work but from then on I was having an issue where on the first down shift it would lock the controller up and you would have to stop and restart the car. I assume since that problem started with the wiring issue and the down shift blips the throttle, that this issue is in that cable. I have reached out to the manufacturer to get a replacement so hopefully that will solve that issue. The good news on this test day is, we set the gears for this track and all the gears and expected shift points were where I expected them. I believe this is going to make the car a good bit quicker since it can stay in higher RPM power range the whole way around the track now, but with all my issues today I was a few seconds off my normal pace.

Well HP tuners gave me a curve ball this morning. I went to disable the MIL’s for all the misfire conditions and the reason I could not do that at the track yesterday was the editing software needed to be updated. The update had all new emission rules built in and would not let me eliminate these. So after a long search online I found that if I took a quick internet course they would give me a key so I could take those out. So after an software update, a few hours of scrambling for an answer to the problem, then a 15 minute course, then the 10 minutes worth of programming, I have the going into limp mode on upshift ignition cut solved. Now if I can get the throttle to transmission controller cable fixed or replaced, I’ll be ready to test it at the track again.
