Good thinking on his part getting the car off the track. Maybe if he had stopped next to a corner worker station they could have used one of their extinguishers. I have put out two car fires in my day, one on track, one not. One of the cars was a friend of mines that he crashed at the ring. I was right behind him when he crashed. Luckily someone with an extinguisher stopped and put his car out before it was engulfed. After that happened I started carrying an extinguisher in all of my cars and it was one of the first things I got for the Boss.
For me it's a reminder if I see a corner worker pointing a fire extinguisher at me it means I'm on fire!!!
