I do a bit of everything, typically not HPDE anymore though. I'll be doing SCCA time trials this weekend and autocross next weekend. But yeah this wheel/tire package is essentially a test'n'tune setup as the general track season is coming to a close (Winter is coming...). I just wanted to quickly get off the stock 235/55/17 all-seasons. I highly doubt I'm going to get anything much wider than I have now, I think my 9.5" wide wheels should be sufficiently wide, but if I get Apex wheels I may go 18x10. The Gridlife class I'll be competing in has a maximum tire width of 285, and anything wider than that would be somewhat pointless anyway, as they'd become harder to warm up, they'd be heavier, and I'd start to run into fitment issues as well. Eventually I'll get a custom aero package be forced to move up in classes, and thus be able to take advantage of a wider tire if I want. That's not in the works yet though. Before next season, I'll likely get some sets of Falken RT660's as I've found them to be my favorite for putting down fast laps. Also, thanks for the offer to help me get this stuff - if you or anyone has a contact at Apex or Falken, please hook me up! :)
PM @APEX Wheels when you are ready down the road. He will gladly assist. Also, keep an eye out for Apex group buys. They are posted ocassionally.
Here's the S550 fitment guide. I'm sure you already looked at though....
We have no connections with Falken but have an affiliation with Tire Rack.
Per @Bill Pemberton "I have mentioned a couple of times that when using TireRack to punch in Ext. #4362 for Luke Pavlik, as he is not just a Tire Specialist, he is a long term track rat and therefore he stays up on the different brands more than most. I have known him over 23 years and I always get good info on what tire may be seeing compounding changes or what works better for one's particular needs ( i.e. autocross, HPDE, Endurance, W2W, etc.)."
I don't know if there is a discount anymore but please mention TMO. Some of the proceeds go to TMO to help keep the website open.

If you want to be competitive in CAM, you'll probably need to have 11's and 305/315's. Battery in the back is 1 afternoon and it's well worth the effort. An MGW shifter changes the game on that end.

Cooling is going to be a forever issue. 240 is way too hot to be running your engine. These things will not put up with that. You can't just cool the oil, you have to cool water as well. In fact, the only thing the ECU actually monitors is CHT and it makes calculations from there, so that's where you need to spend the majority of your time. Cooling it is going to take the biggest radiator you can fit in the nose, an oil cooler, hood louvers and a bunch of time making sure the air actually goes through the rad and not around it. If you really want an Eco to run well, you have to keep it cool. Ideal running temp and peak power is probably about 190* CHT. I think extended running over ~220* CHT is just begging for a lower end problem.

Besides that, jump on it, water's fine! I've got a CAM-C Eco and love it. It's plenty competitive against any S550 in a parking lot.

Yeah I haven't made a proper post about it here yet, but I've upgraded to a Mishimoto radiator. I also removed the active shutters to help with cooling. Hood vents are next!

I don't want to compete in CAM, and if I did I would prefer utilizing aero to get more grip rather than running a wider tire. But anyway, yes I will be relocating the battery to rear to improve weight distribution.

If you want to be at the pointy end of the stick, you better do both. Tires are first.

Note: TeeLew lists 20+ Years of autocrossing on his moniker, and though there is no way to write any larger number, if it could be done I could list 42+ years of autocrossing experience/knowledge. Therefore I echo Lew to a Tee -----------------tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires .
