That's what I did incorrectly as well. The odd thing is I'm pretty mechanically inclined, do almost all the work on my car myself, and even had the repair manual to reference. I still messed it up, but fortunately the noise as I started rolling clued me in that there was a problem. For those looking for guidance on how to avoid this error, here is what I do:Yep that’s what i missed. Appears there is an arrow but did not get the clip under the top pin correctly and that’s what popped loose
1. Install the tie rod and hand tighten the bold into the tie rod.
2. Install the top pin first from the inside to the outside of the caliper and fully seat it by tapping in the back side of the pin.
3. Hook the top of the clip under the smaller diameter section of the top pin and make sure it is only touching the pin in the smaller diameter section. Be certain to orient the clip correctly top/bottom for the front pads. The top and bottom are different for the front, but for the rear the clip can go either way.
4. Push the bottom of the clip all the way in toward the pads.
5. Insert the bottom pin all the way through the caliper by hand from the inside to the outside of the caliper while holding pressure on the clip. It can take some force to get the pin into the hole on the outside of the caliper.
6. Fully seat the bottom pin by tapping the back side of the pin.
7. Torque the tie rod bolt to 22 lb. ft.
8. Verify the clip is fully seated on the top and bottom pins. The ends should wrap around the pins and be centered in the smaller diameter section of the pin.
