Hey everyone,

I think my MT82 is at end of life. On track at high RPM when warm I had pretty bad 2-3 and 3-4 lockout and occasional lockouts on downshifts. Double clutching helped and would take 3-4 seconds per shift. The clutch is stock with about 20k miles on it (replaced when long block was replaced). It’s also recently developed a really loud 6th gear whine.

I was debating the Mach 1 TR-3160 (cheapest TR-3160 available from Ford) or the Magnum XL. I’m leaning the TR-3160 and cooler since the ratios seem a lot more suited for the 3.73’s. There’s a few guides people have put together on the swap.

Would RXT be the best clutch option for either?

For a track-focused clutch, the go-to around here is the Exedy Hyper Single. Exedy also has several less-aggressive models.

I'd steer clear of a ceramic disc clutch like the RXT. I put a "cerametallic" twin disc Mantic in front of my 2015 GT's MT82 and the synchros are definitely the worse for it. Then I was reading on Ben Calimer's web site and he recommends against anything other than an organic disc for the MT82 (unless you get his top of the line racing built MT82). I'm now running a McLeod RST twin organic cluth and it's much better, except the damage is already done to the synchros. So I just drive it and ignore the occassional grinding synchros as more brass shaves off; the Barton shifter helps me push the gears through regardless of the banged up synchros. I noticed recently Steeda is offering a new TR-3160 trans and swap kit to replace the MT82; it comes with the RST. I haven't talked with them, but it seems they are offering it as a direct swap in. So, hopefully the stock length driveline will be just fine. Cost for their kit is about $5100. I'll probably end up with something like that when my MT82 finally gives up.
