Do you think conditions played a factor in time? I know in racing 3 seconds is a lot but the GT3 RS did it in 6:44. Not saying it should be faster than that but they used the Porsche as a reference so I expected it to be closer to the Porsche time than the 7 minute goal

My understanding of all this is the 6.57 lap time was recorded in August.
They then went back to try and beat that but it rained and they weren’t able to run. So they stuck with the 6.57 and plan to go back next year.
The documentary was a little misleading

Ahh okay that makes sense.

Pretty sneaky at 1:48. Hopefully the 'competitive event' wording is what carries the weight in the statement, as it would be silly if someone went to an HPDE with their $300k track-bred flagship Mustang and had their warranty voided for it.

Well by nature, "High Performance Driver Education" is not a competition or competitive event. It's not racing, and that's what the instructors will tell the drivers repeatedly in the drivers meetings - doesn't mean Ford will honor a warranty claim. If you're running Time Trials in a GTD, I'm guessing you can probably afford track day insurance to at least cover collision damage.

Yep, that's what I was outlining with my comment. I'm just hopeful whoever does user-end servicing on the vehicles won't try to use it as an out if they pull logs and say "we see a lot of high-performance high-wear driving on your vehicle" and make the owner have to prove it was done in a non-competition environment - especially given the history with the early GT350 warranty and litigation over it being 'track-ready'.

Ford have declined multiple HPDE only driver for warranty work in the past. Never fully trust those who profit from your peril.
I've heard about it too. And my comment was irrelevant anyway, since track day insurance doesn't cover mechanical failures. Don't mind me, my coffee hasn't kicked in yet. You'd have to trailer the car to some road near your home and drop it off there, to have it towed home and say it failed on a public road. That is, unless the engine failed and burned it to the ground.

The risks we take to enjoy life.

It will take quite a bit of track time to catch up to the years and years of time that Porsche has on this track. Pretty good for a 3 year old effort! Fully expect to hear a 6.44 lap time in the future.
