Got to try out my new @Apex Wheels and Nankang CR-S tyres at Phillip Island on Sunday.
Unfortunately someone forgot to order sunshine and warmth.
One very slow session on the new wheels & tyres in deep water then back to some road rubber that was still very exciting in slippery conditions.
The pagid RS29's seem to grab on initial application in low grip circumstances and scare the crap of me.
Best part was putting it back on the trailer the same way it came off in the morning.

Area 27, Area 27, Area 27..................in many different ways I am green with envy ( puns also intended ). Bucket list track for so many folks, you are indeed blessed!~

Area 27? Meh. Truly meh.
An exercise in seeing how many turns and switchbacks you can put in a given area of mostly flat land.
Area 27 was supposed to be an F1 track, but there is a zero percent chance that the F1 circuit would ever have gone there, it's out in nowhere. Hands up all those who know where Osoyos, B.C. is? So it's mostly a school track for executives from Vancouver.
Personally, I think Westwood was a better track than Area 27 is, but the fact that it was known as Wetwood tells you something negative about it. Bring rains, you'd need them.
But then I've been spoiled by living 10 miles from Mosport, the fastest road course (tied with Road Atlanta) in North America, and a few hours from Le Circuit Mont Tremblant, Lime Rock, Watkins Glen and Mid-Ohio.
Now those are great race tracks.

I will be moving to Kawartha Lakes in the very near future so I look forward to seeing you there at Mosport. Area 27 is a good long track with technical turns and it and The Ridge and ORP are home for me out here. Westwood was fun on my motorcycle but quite small. I look forward to learning Mosport, share any info you have. Thanks.

I always have questions on how someone determines the fastest road course in N. America, since most of my Pro Racing friends claim either Mosport or Road America , with Road Atlanta often in the mix, but............................ If they are speaking average speed then I get it , but there are so many courses that have really fast sections and often the technical case of going from 150+ to a slow corner is often more difficult ( Mid - Ohio comes to mind ). When you throw in tracks like Willow Springs with its insane super fast sweeping curve going into a straight before the last turn, many on the West Coast will want it mentioned. Overall I guess you are talking average speed , since some tracks like Road America have extremely fast straights ( 3 ) so easy to consider it. Just a comment , as there are so many great tracks in our Continent and Mosport is always in the conversation, but anymore one has to ask if outright speed is the entire answer because many of us love the super technical nature of many road courses. Mosport is technical in that the speed attained mean you better have the car placed in the right place every lap. Not really disagreeing, just commenting on the fact that so many voice various tracks as the fastest , but it can be quite subjective.

My understanding is it is average speed for a complete lap, but that data isn't always easy to find whereas lap times are easy to find. Last I looked Mosport and Road Atlanta were very close by that metric, they are very close in length and have a lot of similarity. Mosport is 2.459 miles, RA is 2.550. RA is almost 1/10 of a mile longer so that's going to add a second or so to lap times.

Caddy DPI 1.08.69 at Road Atlanta, Acura DPI 1.06.25 at Mosport. It's still not apples to apples because we know nothing about weather, tire compounds, rule sets the cars were prepped to, and probably 50 other variables and also the 1/10 that RA is longer.

The main thing is they are very similar tracks in layout and they both are an absolute blast to drive. They truly are world class tracks and should be on every track rat's bucket list.

Just get some big boys pants for these two monsters!!!!!

Some
data.
This is willow spring pace (111mph). Car can hit 160 on straight (I'm 145 but I'm draggy)
I do wsir at 147 on t8.
I also
Did daytona too.(170mph peak) I'm now 3 or 4 sec faster than daytona laptime. So daytona might be faster With my actual
configuration

So Area 27 is 3.0 miles long and the sedan lap record is 2.12 in a Porsche GT3 RS. The fastest I have done is a 2.23, what lap times are you doing at Mosport and in what car? I am looking forward to my introduction to that track, as well as Watkins Glenn. Thanks JDee.

My best time at Mosport is 1.33.3, that was in a fairly modified, gutted, stripped 2016 PP1 Mustang on 305/30/19 AR1 slicks.
However, a more typical time for that car in near stock condition would be 5 or 6 seconds a lap slower.
My 2023 Mach 1, stock with 305-30s on Apex rims and no other mods would run 1.36-1.37. Haven't had the Dark Horse to the track yet but it is heavier than the Mach 1 so thats bad, but it does have all the go fast options like the track handling pack, big brakes, more power, etc so it may be quicker than the Mach 1.
I can't comment much on Watkins, I last ran there 30 years ago and stuff was way different than it is now. It is a great track though and if you can hit it and Mosport you are hitting two top notch legit grand prix tracks with a ton of history. Both should be on anyones bucket list.

Westwood!! that brings back memories!! Used to go watch the races as a skinny 18 year old itching to race. by the time I had a car to race it was to late and it was shut down.

IRP's new infield course isn't a traditional course, but the run up onto that front straight has to lead to some serious speed doesn't it?

I'd go with Road America Bill. 155 into turn 1, 153 into turn 5 and 150 into Canada Corner. Plus the Kink at 112 apex speed and a 90 mph Carousel. In N/A Coyote Mustangs
