TMOers,

Installed my JPS black braided clutch line today. It had been sitting on the workbench for a long time and it was well past time to install it. I never had the pedal stick to the floor but I liked the idea of a stainless line and a slightly larger diameter than the stocker. Works well but I couldn't feel much difference in my short drive today, will go for a longer drive tomorrow. FWIW, swap was done with the front end up on ramps.

I'd like to share my learnings in case others are considering installing an upgraded clutch line.

1) Cap the upper end so liquid does not drain out when the lower connection is unplugged.

2) Lower the transmission (4 bolts on the crossmember, floor jack). This opens up the work space at the transmission. Unfortunately, I realized that lowering the crossmember would be beneficial after an hour and a bunch of cuts and scrapes and some 'encouraging' words.

3) Rapid clutch pumping (full arc using left then right arm then left leg) chased out the air and the squeak that started about 3/4 of the way through the air chasing effort. I am sure that >200 cycles were needed to clear the air and fill the line.

4A) The spring clip on the plastic elbow that connects to the slave cylinder is slightly different from the two clutch line clips in that it has a "foot" on one side. The 'foot' is a 90-degree bend on one of the clip legs. The other side of the slave cylinder elbow clip may have had a foot, too, but the lower half was missing(!). The stub was angled and had oxidation on it so it was not a recent wound. I replaced the broken clip with a Steeda clip.

4B) Order at least two and, preferably, three clips because there is plenty of opportunity to lose a clip. I spent too much time searching the garage floor for a clip that just popped out as I was trying to install the elbow and the upper connections. I taped (painter's tape) the heat shield near the trnasmission and the holes in the inner fender (under the master cylinder) so the clips would not find there way anyplace but onto the floor.

That's my long note for a simple job.

Chris
