Well the Mustang is going to need a power increase to compete, but styling wise, Chevy just fails. It's like they thought because the C7 was a definitive success styling-wise, all of their cars must look like it.
 
The Mustang doesn't need more power, it needs better suspension to deal. If the 1LE can do better with less power and more weight then power isn't the issue with the Mustang.

It was mostly the much larger sticky tires. Mustangs are severely under tired.

This has been true for as long as I can remember.

However it's hard to design and outfit a car, without having a ton of options, that ranges from a rental your grandmother drives to a road racing beast.
