There is a feeling about how unfair this seems, because when the supremely talented Alex Zanardi lost his legs in a racing accident years back, it seemed miraculous he lived and even came back to race again in various top notch series ( DTM for instance). Running at Daytona this year in a specially equipped BMW , Zanardi has been the image of never say die, never quit , and his unbelievable drive in the face of adversity few of us can even begin to understand. His need to compete , his constant smile and his attitude that life did not treat him unfairly, kept him supremely alive and endearing to his many fans. His hand cycle became another extension of his drive to succeed, and succeed he did , winning many Gold Medals in the Paralympic games. To find out that he was in a horrible accident during a sanctioned relay rally and may have suffered brain injury or even the loss of sight is simply unbearable. It continues to hit me how this doesn't seem fair, it should not even register that a fellow racer should go through such unconscionable perils in life , and we can all only pray he prevails and comes through against the odds. Time, while we all are semi frustrated with the issues Covid has caused to our lives, to look outward and visualize the immense struggles Alex has gone through, his continued triumphs, his grace in life , we now should put forth our positive thoughts that his inward strength will somehow pull him through again. Great driver, great competitor , great example of the human spirit, prayers and thoughts from all here at TMO!!
