Not sure what number G-Locs Byron was using, but many began using R12s up front and R8 or R10s in the rear only to discover they needed to use more aggressive numbered pads. This was the case for me and likely for Byron as I am one late braker...

It is not the only rule - you missed this :For all classes EXCEPT CAM-T, a rear wing may be added, removed,or modified. Endplates are allowed. No portion of the wing or its may be more than 6.0” forward of the rear axle or more than 6.0”...
What kind of manufacturing error rears its head after 9 heat cycles? On the flip side, the user has plenty of experience on the tires, setup, etc which also seems to eliminate user error.Long way of saying also at a loss.
