HPDE tires

My wheels are not square because I hate running spacers with a blind passion. I use a tire shop to rotate tires and most of the track days I visit have free tire service anyway. But I use a trusted shop manual labor in Bulgaria is cheap.
Is your hate for spacers based on something that happened?

I will be using some Goodyear F1 Supercar 3R's Memorial Day weekend for the first time on my 2021 GT500. This is my first time running the car at the track without the Michelin PS4's that came stock on the car. I have been running the PS4's for 5 years now but wanted something more track oriented.

Not to sound like your dad but if this is your first time on the 3R or similar be aware that they will have a lot less grip than your old PS4s when cold. You have to get some heat in them. I looped my car on the out lap one time on them at about 50 mph, which my friends still give me grief about, pretty embarrassing lol.

Wonderful tire though once they’re ready to go. Have fun.

You will likely use a lower tire pressure than with the PS4s. Stevbd is correct if the weather and pavement are cold, but if the weather is warm ( along with the pavement) there should be little or no difference in warm up. Surprisingly I suggest considering warm to start in the 70s plus, since in the 60s the track surface may not have warmed up from the night before.

PS - by the way Stevbd I looped a car on a warm up lap during qualifying since I wasn't thinking about the temperature so you are not the Lone Ranger. Good advice to drop on TMO my friend.

20 x 11 front and 20 x 11.5" rear? Stock is 305 and 315/30R20, right?

What tire sizes did you you select front and rear in the Goodyear F1 Supercar 3R?

I'll own up to doing that also. Trailered the car to the track for the first time with the Mustang. Half a lap is not enough time to get some temp into Cup 2's. Looped it off track in the 2nd of 3 consecutive hairpins at low speed. Every photo that day has grass seeds all over the front spoiler.
As the others have said, get temp first, but that doesn't mean being gentle on them, just try doing it in a straight line. I tend to do a lot of repetitive straight line hard acceleration and braking on the out lap to get heat into the braking system and tyres. You also get to feel how much grip the track has at its current temperature, early mornings can be great for engines with the cold air but not so good for overall grip.

I'd be afraid of being rear ended by all the Miatas buzzing around my rear end on the out lap like a disturbed hive of angry bees.

I was tought to do a solid warm up lap or two to get heat into tires. Some seem to go hard right off the bat but yeah you end up with a lot of passes but then you are in the clear and i haven’t had this misfortune yet lol

Yokohama A052s were great at NCCAR. My car normally runs a full slick.. I’m new to the car and learning it so I don’t have a comparison. I noticed it was easier to get rotation while trailing than I’m accustomed to with my previous car (350R on GY3Rs). Utilizing same brake compound front and rear might be magnified while running a 200tw tire over a grippier tire. More rotation was welcomed on a track so hard fronts. I’ll be looking forward to see how A052s do a VIR… I’ll be experimenting with them and also feeling out S9M slicks which will be my default tire. If A052 seems up to the task I'll transport on a utilize in cooler weather then recommended for S9M.

They will increase leverage on the hub

More than a tire with the 26 offset? No way.

All we are doing is moving the wheel out to match the same position as the stock 26 offset, so we can use the 52 offset from the rear wheel ( so we can rotate).

I think the leverage would be exactly the same, since the wheel and tire are moved into the exact same position as the 26 offset with no hub.

It only increases leverage if you are moving the wheel and tire further outboard. In this case, the wheel and tire are in the exact same position.

The 3R's are everything I heard about. Big jump for me having only ever ran the PS4's in the past. Yes, they do not grip well in the cold and wet, but they are manageable as long as water is not running across the track or puddling. First two days at Nelson Ledges was rain off and on with temp only in the low 60's so it took longer to heat the tires up but once warm they were great. Managed to knock 2.5 seconds off my best lap from the previous year. Never really had a clean pass without traffic or it could've been better.

I packed up there Sunday night and went to Mid-Ohio for two more days on Monday and Tuesday. This was my first time ever at this track, so it was a little learning curve figuring out the track. It is probably the most technical track I have driven on to date but flows well and is very fun. Because of all the rain this area has gotten there were two area where water was running across the track. If you are familiar with the track, it was the entry and exit of the bus stop and the exit of the keyhole. I did not have the confidence with all the water out of the keyhole to run the proper line. Finally, the Tuesday afternoon it was dry everywhere and I managed to drop over 4 seconds off my previous best time earlier in the day being able to run the proper line.

The 3R's are great when warm and sing slightly when you are getting to their limit. When they are not quite warm enough, they give not warning and just loose grip. I did not center spin but came close on my second lap during one session but all is good.

I do not think I will ever do 4 track days in a row though, but who knows I was exhausted last night.
