I run the car in Sport+ mode do you check your oil consumption ?
My spark plugs are brand new but as I mentioned I had lost 0.7 quarts of oil on track when the code presented itself. My guess is that I have oil slosh issues and that might be causing the P0345 though I only had P0345 if you have P0300 and P0308 codes your car is also misfiring so I will start by checking if I changed clutch lately and if yes do a crank relearn.
Keep me posted as this needs sorting out prior to my next outing on track. I plan to do the GT500 aluminium valve covers. Do the timing chain while in there and probably buy the FP version of the CAM Phasers:

As well as new cam position sensors.
I haven’t noticed any oil loss

Just to add to that both my valve covers have oil spots on them on different parts of the covers. I'm guessing this is where my oil is going so the GT500 Aluminium covers will be ordered soon. The lead time looks to be around 14 to 17 days though so it might take a while hopefully the car will be back on the road in no time.

Quick Update

The past few months I have been busy collecting parts after my March Serres event to try and address the fallowing issues:

1. Oil consumption - I burned/lost 700 ml of 5W20 Castrol Edge (Motorcraft) oil in 24 laps
2. My driver side rear differential bushing is torn and tossing the diff around
3. My passenger side exhaust mount (the one that is on the rear cradle) has a broken bushing so the exhaust is hitting the rear bumper.

So here is where I'm with addressing this issues:

1. For the Oil consumption after reading through a lot of posts here the consensus is that it's EVAP system related on the driver side as well as probably valve cover related. When inspecting the car I found my valve covers looking like this:

IMG_8865.jpeg

So naturally I decided it's time for the GT500 valve covers. I ordered them and waited like a month for them to get to me. Once they arrived I asked the Dealer to order me a set of exhaust handlers for the rear so they can fix both at the same time. That took another full moth to arrive. However once the dealer confirmed they had the parts I scheduled an appointment for yesterday. Today I took the car with the new GT500 valve covers however the parts department ordered two sets of left side exhaust handler and the one broken at my end is the right side so I will be waiting some more hopefully not another month.

Ether way I asked the dealer to take photos under the valve covers (Money shifts, high revving, 800 laps on track):

IMG_9241.jpegIMG_9242.jpegIMG_9243.jpegIMG_9244.jpeg

By the looks of it I have one very healthy engine even though it has around 20 hours of track running time.

And finally the new dressed up engine bay:

IMG_9248.jpegIMG_9249.jpeg

Notice how the new oil cap says 5W50 I wonder if that's now mandatory or I should continue to run 5W20 :?

However the dealer actually mentioned that they found the missing oil and here is a photo proof where:

IMG_9250.jpeg

looks like the oil is going to the Air filter through the left side PCV so if someone tell you you only need passenger side catch can don't trust him. I have ordered the GT350 Driver side catch can and it will come in a couple of weeks.

2. Diff bushings
IMG_8601.jpeg

I spoke with @2Morrow who happen to had the same problem back in the day and he suggested the Steeda Diff inserts which are supposed to fix or at least mediate that issue. I decided that considering it's the cheapest and easiest option (somehow don't want to drop the cradle and do new bushings) it's worth trying so I ordered a set that arrived together with the GT500 valve covers. I spoke with my shope that does my alignments and we agreed to do it on 28.05.2025 so stay tuned.

3. Exhaust handlers - The dealer ordered wrong parts so I will need to go back ones the right one arrive and install it.

4. Rear Bumper

IMG_8669.jpeg

This one the dealer refuses to fix it and I'm not really sure what my real options are considering that probably the best option will be a new bumper which is expensive. The other solution that Ford are suggesting with the round holders is not exactly nice looking to me so I might as well skip it. Hopefully will not lose my rear bumper.

So overall that is the short summery of what is going on with my car. Still waiting for parts.

FWIW, in my 2016 I ran 5W50 oil all the time and it was great. No funky engine noises and no pressure drops in high g corners. Until slicks, stock pan could not control sloshing, Moroso 10 quart road race pan fixed that.

Dark Horse wants 5W30, going to see how that works on track, if it ever stops raining. I feel like I should be buying shares in Noah's Ark Inc.

On 200TW tires so far I'm happy with how the 5W20 is keeping the engine safe but that 5W50 cap that comes with the GT500 Valve covers is what puzzle me. In my end of the woods we don't have a steady enough supply of 5W50 at reasonable prices as the only good option is the Porsche spec Mobile 1 which is pricy as you know Porsche spec. The oil pan is on my list will probably go with GT500 pan when it's time for chains as I kind of want to do it all in one go.

5w50 is genuinely more expensive in the US also , but have you tried Mobil 1 or Castrol pricing for their synthetics. I ran 5w20 in my Mach 1 but I have always changed the oil very frequently. After two track weekends and only a little highway driving and I would change the fluid. I never really went much longer if when I ran a heavier weight ( 5w40 in my Viper ACR in years past ). Many of the drivers I ran with ran the 5w50 or 15W50 in Vipers and the feeling is with track use the heat generated is so much greater than highway use that frequent changing is important and a heavier weight might likely benefit , especially during the hotter times of the year.

Most of the Ford Engineers who came to the " Fast Fords and Mustang Roundup " ( www.racemph.com this September ) do run 5w50 in their Ponies. I hope this was a little helpful?

It's helpful Bill ! I change my oil very often especially now with the oil leaks. However based on the photos not sure if I need to switch to 5w50 considering it's more than twice as expensive. I know FPRS runs 5W50 in the 2015-2017 GT school cars so I understand how that is beneficial. But they run inTexas heat where I kind of stopped running in July/August and try to run the car only on the cold months.

Another day in the shop

I feel lately I'm spending way more time in services instead of the track.
Today was finally the day where I was scheduled to go to the shop that does my alignments to install the Steeda Diff Inserts. This is the first time I'm tackling such a task and the reason I had to do it was the torn diff bushing on the left rear. This bushing is a common issue for the S550's and I think the Steeda diff insert system is genius as it solves that issue for not a lot of money.

I went to the shop at 9:30 or so as I overslept but they manage to take the car on the lift straight away. Ones the car was in the air I took some time to look around it and found most of my oil on the whole left side of the car:

IMG_9270.jpegIMG_9271.jpeg

We needed to took the Steeda 3" catback out of the car because of needing the space for the Diff Inserts.

IMG_9275.jpeg

It took us a while to get anything installed mostly because it turned out there is no blue locktite in the whole shop and needed to wait like an hour or so for delivery. Ether way at around 13:30 we were ready with the install and taking the exhuast back:

IMG_9280.jpeg

I decided to go with the 80 durometer red version because the black 90 durometer seamed a lot harder. We did a quick rear end alignment and around 14:30 I was ready to leave and do a road test.

What I can say I really didn't expected this to make such a big difference. I was struggling for some time with shifting gears as there was just too much clunk in the driveline and the rear was also really unpredictable and making me nervous because the weight was shifting in wired ways. With the diff inserts all of that is gone. The rear is super stable and planted now. I can feel what the rear is doing which was not the case before. And shifting gears is firm and steady. There is increase in the NVH of the car: a bit harsher over bumps, there is a clunk that was there before this change and is now bigger (I'm thinking RLCA bushings), and the diff is having a whine over 80 kmh but overall I think the positives out weight the NVH.

I can't wait to take the car back to Serres and see how much my lap times will improve but I suspect I will be easy into 1:27 now as the car is so more controllable and predictable in what the rear is doing.
Overall a great day in the shop.

What is next:

I'm still waiting on a GT350 driver side oil separator to help with oil "consumption".
I'm also waiting on a exhaust handler for the ride side you can see it drooping on the photo.

This two things are the keys to taking back the car on track so almost there but not quite.

As far as the oil goes on the left side of the car. Just double check and make sure the pressure sensor isn’t loose. I had this happen to me a few years ago. There was a TSB on it for gen 2 cars. It may not be because of that but still good to check.

it's leaking in the oil separator line then into the CAI and from there through the hole for water on the whole car. That's why I just installed GT500 Valve Covers and now waiting on GT350 oil separator I suspect that issue will be solved after that. I think it only happens on Serres because it's a CW track and I have oil separator on the passenger side so never was an issue on Dracon CCW track.

Free Day - Serres Racing Circuit - 07.06.2025

For the past few weeks I knew that it was an open track weekend on 07-08.06.2025 on Serres. This was my target however with the GT350 oil separator still to arrive and the exhaust hangler still not here and fixed I was nervous to go. I had shared that plan for the weekend with a friend of mine who owns a G80 M3 that he is starting to mod for track. On Thursday he mentioned that he is still going on Saturday to Serres and asked if i wanted to join. The Mustang was still aligned and prepped after we installed the Steeda Diff inserts and I wanted to test what the inserts have to offer so I said sure why not.
So at 6:00 AM I woke up and at 6:45 I was in the car ready for the 2 hours and 30 minutes drive 220km (136 miles) to Serres.

The drive was very pleasant almost no traffic but a bit of morning fog on the highway ether way was shaping up to be amazing day.

When I stopped for gas at the Shell station just before the border I wrote to my friend to see where he is and he was literally 3-5 minutes behind me. So we got gas and at 9:30 we arrived at the track. The track actually opened at 9:00 so we just missed the first session. Serres is south of Sofia by a lot so at 10:00 AM was already 28C (82F).

It was a tough car preparation but we were ready for the 10:40 session (sessions were actually 1 hour apart with a brake at 15:00 of 1 hour. Considering the weather we didn't planned for a lot of sessions I just wanted to test the Steeda Diff inserts. My friend had some slick tires put on the car as well as some much needed E he drives at E30 to E50 depending on maps.

First Session out there was a lot of traffic mostly Clio RS's and Mazda 3's so me and him were struggling with the traffic and I only did 1:31.05 while he did 1:31.4. But who count the first session.

The Second session at 11:30 still 28C was my best of the day with a 3rd lap of 1:29.29.

The car was showing 113C (235F) CHT temps but when cooling down it quickly dropped to 102C (215F) If I did 2 cool down laps I could get it to 97C so looks like my car is cooling better with the GT500 valve covers. My friend manage to get down to 1:28.7 in that session.

I skipped the 3rd session at 12:40 to let the car cooldown as well as me. I was struggling with overheating of myself even though by that point I was at a gallon of water consumed so my friend suggested there is ice cream in the track cafe so that helped a lot to make me feel better. My friend did 1:28.0 at that session.

In the 4th session the car was cooled down but so were the tires and I did 2 warm up laps and still was not able to get them to temperature for the first push lap: 1:29.93 did another cooldown lap and in the 4th lap of the session posted a 1:29.34. Again highest CHT was 113C (235F) and that was in 32C (89.6F) weather. Overall the car performed flowlessly.

We were actually waiting for another M4 G82 to arrive and try my friends slicks. That was the guy with the white F82 M4 from previous Dracon Cups. He is constantly 1 second or so faster than me he sold his F series and bought a well prepped M4 G82. He arrived around 14:00 and we managed to put the slicks on the car before the 14:40 session by that point we were the only ones left at the track.

14:40 session he went on by himself on the slick tires did like a 10 or so laps stint with the new to him slicks and managed to beat his top time at Serres with 1:26.9 at 32C (89.6F) weather. To say that this M cars are impressive will be an understatement.

Here is how front left A052 looked after that 15 or so laps at the heat:

IMG_9338.jpeg

At that point after a quick coffee at the track for chit chat we started packing and were back on the road by 16:00. I stopped after the boarder on the Shell to pick up fuel for the drive back as well as some food and drinks. I arrived to Sofia at around 19:00 however when I parked the car so I can open the garage I actually managed to catch the curb with my right front Apex wheel.

IMG_9343.jpeg

And did some very annoying curb rash to my precious Apex wheel. Some times I'm an idiot. That really ruined my day.

However today I manage to check the oil and looks like my oil consumptions issues are gone as the car didn't touched the oil even though it was 32C or so on the track and I was pushing 4-5 laps into the sessions. I'm really happy when something that you read on the internet actually works. My Oil separator will arrive sometime next week and I will install it but looks like there is no need. The Diff inserts added some NVH mostly diff whine over 80 km/h but the rear is so much more planted and controlled and was making worst noises prior so I consider that a win.

What is next. At that point i think track driving is out of the question for the next few summer months but overall I need to prep the car for Summer aka put the street tires and probably some street brakes back on the car.

I need to order new tires as seen by the photo above not sure if i want another set of A052 or a set of 305/30/19 AR-1's so that's TBD.

But I'm happy that by the looks of it my car is back and stronger.

The tires don't look that bad and what other choices are there for you? Can you get Nankang CR-S V2s, Bridgestone RE71RSs, the new Vitour Tempesta P1s, or Falken RT660+? Just wondering as I know the selections vary around the World.

They probably can get another few sessions but overall are way past the prime at 112 laps (40 at Dracon, 72 at Serres) and around 5000 km's of street driving including the Transfagarashan Trip. The other options are Nankang CRS and AR-1 at 305/30/19 or a new set of A052's. The other 3 are not available in Europe and in general the brands of tires in Europe are different than in the States for example we have something called Goodyear F1 Supersport R (80 TW) that is fit on a Porsche GT3 instead of the Supercar 3R (100 TW) that you guys have. So the market of tires in Europe is totally different. At that point I lean towers the AR-1's as I was happy with how they wear and how fast they are but they are noise. I'm happy with the A052's as they are as fast or faster on Serres but are also comfortable to travel with long distance.

I would stick with the Yokes if you are getting that good of usage and they are definitely faster than AR-1s!
They are on par time wise but the AR-1s last longer so in terms of number of laps my AR-1 set got 188 laps (16 on Serres, 172 on Dracon) And the fastest AR-1 lap on Dracon was 1:06.39 while the fastest A052 was 1:06.788 (however the higher 295/35/19 A052 really struggle on a short track like Dracon was), On Serres in that 16 laps my Nankang best lap time was 1:31.87 while the A052 is 1:28.78 but that was with Power Pack 3, Steeda 3" Catback and more aggressive brakes compared to the AR-1 and the higher profile tire on Serres adds to less gear changes and higher terminal speeds because of the longer final gear ration. In other words is very hard to compare tires when they are different sizes. Or when they spend different number of laps on different tracks. And to add to that mix Dracon track got the redesign and now it's totally different track and with another 4 km track building 60 km's from Sofia the things will be even more different next season. Making this choice not as simple as it sounds.

Upgrades and fixes

So where we were. After the Serres track day in the beginning of June I put the car in storage as I was waiting on a few more things to arrive or to fix.

On 18th of June my dealership received the correct parts for my exhaust support and they contacted me to install them. I give them the car in the morning and by the afternoon everything was fitted correctly. The exhaust is no longer hitting the rear bumper.

On 20th of June a box with the Whiteline Endlinks finally arrived:

IMG_9460.jpeg

I'm yet to install them though as my summer was really packed with other stuff.

It took two more weeks till 2nd of July for the GT350 Driver Side Oil separator to arrive:

IMG_9516.jpeg

I decided this install seamed simple enough so I can do it by myself. It took me a solid 1 hour fighting with the stupid push pins and carpet around the strut towers but finally managed to install it:

IMG_9535 (1).jpeg

I hope I will not need to clean it though. This is making access to the oil checker much harder but it's doable. Ether way it looks almost factory.
After that install I contacted the Ford Dealership in the other part of town that actually have a body shop in it to give me an hour for fixing my rear bumper. They asked me to go in person so they can asses the damage. I managed to go out one afternoon and they said it should be a simple fix, but they need to take the bumper off to asses. They booked me for 29th of July.
I hoped nothing was broken as I actually had a track day booked for 20th of August on the rebuild Dracon race track.
When 29th of July arrived I drove the car to the dealership around 1 hour drive in the morning. They took the car take the bumper off and discovered that actually nothing is broken. Reinstalled the bumper and I went the next morning to pick up the car. That was great turn around and the bumper is looking as it should.

Free Day - Dracon Racetrack - 20.08.2025

I actually had to work a lot during the summer this year. And most of July was spend working though I did spend a week in my home town around my birthday (22.07.2025) but most of the time were in Sofia working. A friend of mine actually invited me to his destination wedding on 16.08.2025 and I decided to take the Mustang to it as i would have enjoyed the trip. It was a lovely 3 days wedding Friday (15.08.2025) till 17.08.2025 in a small village in the Mountain so was a lovely mountain drive with the Mustang. Even though the car was in a race setup (295/35/19 A052 tires, race brakes) I was still a fairly comfortable drive. The event itself was super fun and I was so glad I manage to go.

A friend of mine who has a lovely S13 that is fixing for the past year and a half here in Bulgaria, was actually back on vacation in August and decided to organise a track day on Dracon to test the car. The best date for him was 20.08.2025 (Wednesday). This is the same guy who organised the Serres event a few years back so I knew what to expect and we did other events as well. I decided that I want to be there and he wanted the Mustang as a benchmark to the S13.
With me not taking vacation all summer and the wedding and the track day in close proximity I decided I could take 15th to 24th of August as vacation.

We agreed early on in the organisation process that we will be 20th cars that day. Some interesting cars signed up: An M4 G82 xDrive fully build with KW v4 suspension and AR1 tires, I asked another friend who just received a new M2 G87 LCI to join as well, A Corvette C6, my friend's Nissan S13, Megan RS, Audi TT RS, Ford Sierra Cosworth, Roush RS3 Mustang. Overall a strong group of people.
Since it's middle of summer and during organisation was supposed to be super hot we agreed with the track to start driving at 8:30 AM.
After the wedding on 17th I washed the car and spend the next two days making sure everything is packed and ready for the trip. The car was looking in great shape considering it was not driven a lot since June. However on 19th it actually rained both in Sofia and on Dracon.
There were some concerns that the track might be wet the next morning.

I woke up at 6:00 AM as the people from Sofia agreed to travel together at 6:30 AM. I stopped at Shell near the track to put fuel and was on track at 8:10 AM.
The track was dry and with the new layout and tarmac was looking gorgeous.

A few months ago there was an American Muscle Fest on Dracon the fastest car there was a C6 Z06 with a lap time of 1:28.389 and the fastest Mustang was an 800 HP Supercharged Mustang with 1:31.448.

I setup the suspension to -6/-6 clicks from full stiff and entered the track for first session at 8:41 AM. My best time was 1:33.88. I exited the track and set tire pressures to 2.1 bar (30 psi) front and 2.05 bar (29.5 psi) rear. To try and preserve the tires as much as possible at that point in time the A052 are heat cycled out for me.

My friend Nissan S13 is fully build Clubsport spec car on brand new D2 coilovers and 245/40/18 Yokohama AD09 tires, he just installed ABS back into the car from an E46 M3 BMW since he has a custom Link ECU. He was around 0.5 seconds behind the Mustang in the first session.

I entered my second session in 9:06 AM (my sessions are overall very short 2-3 laps) and with the tire pressures now correctly setup I did 1:32.8 first lap and after a cooldown lap (CHT was going up to 109C (228F)) I managed to do 1:31.82 so I was closing down to the fastest Mustang. My friend with the S13 did only 1:32.3 or so.
The new Dracon layout is even harder on the brakes than the previous configuration because now after the longest straight there is a series of 3 90 degrees left corners with short straights between them which mean the brakes don't have time to cooldown. And you need to use the brakes to rotate the car. Which mean that my breaks started acting up from that point forward. So much so that I boiled the Castrol SRF in that session. We later discovered that the boiling was so big that the brake fluid was exiting through the cap and was collecting on to the middle of the reservoir (this was common for S197's I think).

Naturally I decided to wait a bit for the brakes to cool down before my next session. What we all noticed is that the track was lacking any grip. The reason for that was the rain the previous day so the track was really green. Which on the other hand ment that each session will be faster as the track progressively get more tire on it.

My next session was in 10:06 and my friend with the S13 asked me to went in together so he can get a reasonable reference of his car. That's when he did that lovely video:

That lap was 1:31.05 so actually was the lap that give me back the title of fastest Mustang on Dracon since this is not official timing event I will need to wait till 27.09.2025 Ford Fest to be able to officially claim that title.

I did another session in 10:42 where on the longer straight I started staying on 4th as prior to that I was only doing 197 km/h and loosing time of switching to 5th. The top speed improved to 200 km/h that way (4th limiter is at 204 km/h actually) but the lap was relatively the same 1:31.26. At that point my friend with the M2 did 1:29.2 (this is his first time on track both as a driver and with that car) And the Other M4 was doing 1:27's. My friend with the S13 asked me to go get fuel so I jumped in the car and we went to the petrol station. Since I was doing less laps than the other cars mostly brakes overheating (or ABS Ice mode getting hard pedal in some brake zones) I didn't needed fuel.

I know for a fact that the best time for getting laps on Dracon is around 11:30 so my plan was to let the car cool down and try to nail a good lap before the lunch break (12:00 to 13:00).

I entered the track at 11:34 by that point the air temperature has moved to 22C (71F). I did two fast laps last 1:31.19 but made mistakes so decided to do a cooldown lap get the CHT down to 97C (206F) and do another fast lap. I managed to do 1:30.51 and a top speed on the straight of 204.93 km/h. However my friend with the S13 did a lovely 1:29.944 making him the first to go into the 1:29's.
At that point I didn't think the Mustang had what it takes to beat the S13 which was actually surprising because last time the S13 was on the old Dracon track it did 1:10.1 while my Mustang was constantly doing 1:06's I guess ABS and new tires make that big of a difference.

We did a lovely lunch break and the track reopen around 13:00 by that time the air temp was 26C (79F). I decided that I don't think I can improve in the heat however the other cars started reporting lower and lower lap times. I decided to wait a bit and entered the track at 13:59 first lap out was 1:31.21 then I catch up with traffic very early in the second lap so I backed it out. Even backed out one more. And managed to prepare a great last lap

IMG_9755 (1).jpeg
setting a lap time of 1:29.91 Top Speed 205.56 km/h or 0.03 seconds faster than the S13.

At 15:00 we decided it's time to do the Podium Ceremony. The track day even though is mostly a friendly event still has some form of a Time Attack competition in it and the classes were as fallow: N/A, Turbo, Pro (drivers that drive competitively) and Pocket Rocket (there were two C2's in our group that always drive together).

I actually managed to win the N/A class with 1:29.91 fallowed by a BMW 645i - 1:34.16 and the C6 Corvette 1:34.20

BTS_4675.jpg

The Turbo class was won by the M2 G87 LCI - 1:29.200 fallowed by the Megan RS - 1:33.450 and Audi TT RS - 1:35.500
The Pocket Rocket was won with a time of 1:38.77 which is an amazing drive considering the other car was doing 1:43.00 (slowest car on track that day).
The Pro class was won by the BMW M4 G82 xDrive with a time of 1:25.760 (after that it dropped to 1:25.400), my friend with the Nissan S13 was second with 1:29.944 and 3rd was the Mustang Roush with 1:42.00 (the driver is actually a rally driver but he only drove the car without really pushing it as it was on new street PZero's).

At that point we spend the next few hours talking about cars and taking photos on track. One thing I forgot to mention is that the track has a new noise restriction of 95 DB from 20 meters so with my new Steeda 3" catback.
I was worried that I might be over that limit so I asked the track guy to measure the car. He said I only did 89 DB on the flyby so I should be fine.

I set the coilovers to -14/-14 for the travel back home and manage to snap that lovely photo at the car wash.

It was a lovely track day with a lot of friends, lovely weather and new PB's.
I'm very happy with how the car performed though I was hoping that at least I can compete with the new stock M2 on PS4s tires which turned out is not the case.

What is next:

1. I still need to buy new rubber as the cornering G's had dropped a lot and the S13 A09 tires actually posted higher cornering G's than me.
2. Need to change oil and brake fluid as well.
3. The rear Unitesta rotors got fixed and probably will fit the car now (need to test).
4. Ford Fest 2025 - 27.09.2025 (to claim back fastest Ford and Mustang on Dracon).

bnight ,
I always enjoy your postings and I am sure others do also. It is seriously enjoyable to read about other Trackrats around the World so hopefully some others may follow your lead and tell us about their adventures on track outside the US. I have confidence you will get back the " Fastest Mustang " title and we will all celebrate with you when you do!
