Took my mother on vacation and decided to do an early Thanksgiving dinner. I also have a few family members that live close to the vacation destination that will not be able to make it home for the holiday so invited them over. Great time! I hate cooking with electric but figured out cranking it up an extra 25 degrees to compensate put me right where I needed to be. 1 lb of melted injected butter - oh ya! 18 pounder- 3 1/2 hour hours at "350" covered/tented, another 45 min at "450" uncovered basting 4 times, 45 minute rest and voila. The first cut squirted juice everywhere! Do you like the pineapple platter? ha. 20251117_191137.jpg 20251118_115534.jpg

Hey folks, I'm considering upping my coffee game and am looking for input.

I currently drink instant coffee (gasp!) because it's fast and easy to make one cup at a time. I typically have two 14oz cups of coffee (with milk) every morning, about 1-2 hours apart. I've brewed coffee with whole beans in the past with my blade grinder and 10-cup drip maker, but it's hard to do just a couple cups coffee. Plus the blade grinder isn't the best for controlling grind size.

I've been reading up on options for making good coffee without investing a ton of money. I was looking at the Hario Switch hybrid pour-over setup, but the AeroPress is also intriguing and not terribly expensive. Any V60/Switch or AeroPress users out there?

Seems like a decent hand grinder is a relatively inexpensive but major upgrade from my blade grinder. I'm looking at the MHW-3Bomber R3 (possibly swapping in the Kinu Pour-Over Burr) and the Timemore C5 ESP right now. The 1ZPresso Q Air is also appealing, though it's small capacity means I might need to split the beans for a large batch of coffee into two batches of grinding, especially if I get the larger AeroPress XL. Any recommendations for manual coffee grinders in the $80 - $120 range?

One of these days I'll need to look into this too, the Hario Switch does look like a decent option. I've fallen into the lazy trap, using a Keurig, with SF Bay Fog Chaser being my daily coffee pod option. My wife uses a Moka stove top pot, which she loves, and it definitely keeps more of the richness from the grounds than the Keurig pods from what I've noticed:

I'm too lazy and impatient, and I live with the risk of the bacteria building up in the water tubes of the Keurig. :)

There are reusable cups for Keurig machines. Used it at an Air BNB and worked great. Death With Dark Roast is my preferred Kaffe'. It is the official brew of NJS58/Shop 21 Racing.

Yup, I was using one of those for the decaf roast. If you find a roast you really like, the reusable metal pod is nice.

And I'll admit, I do try to only use the biodegradable soft pods (like the ones SF Bay Coffee makes) because the widely used plastic ones are creating a landfill issue - they're largely not getting recycled. I'm not a big environmentalist like my wife and daughters (I'm a car guy and I love V8s, so yeah), but I try to be somewhat conscious about my habits.

I've heard many things about coffee over the years..........some were good....... others not so good ........bottom line............do whatever floats your boat!!!!!!!!!!!....I always enjoyed the smell of perculating coffee in the morning............that started my day with a smile...............:hellyeah:
