Go to Walmart into the arts and craft section and get a medium paint marker. They are produced by several companies, usually white, yellow, pink work the best.
I like silver sharpies. They write well on tires. They don't run like paints pens do sometimes. You can write small if you want to. And it can be wiped off with brake clean, carb cleaner, brake fluid, etc.
That way I can rotate and relabel between events...since my tires generally last more than one event. It wipes right off with a soft scrub pad or similar.
