Boss - How many years?

The consensus view it Ford will make a Boss 302 for two years. Many doubted the original assumption of 4,000 cars for each year, 3,250 Boss and 750 LS cars, but that has proven to be true. There is some speculation that there could be a Boss 351 for 2014 following the three year original theme but that remains to be seen. With the new 5.8L block in the 2013 GT500 it would be easy to do. ;D

354 cubic inches An inch equals 2.54 centimeters. A cubic inch equals 16.387 cubic centimeters. A 5.8 liter equals 5,800 cubic centimeters, which divided by 16.387 results in 354 cubic inches

I kinda hope they stick to that. A planned limited run adds to the specialness and gives a nod to history.

The ford 351s of the 90s were labelled 5.8, for marketing reasons (Chevy called their 350 a 5.7). Like how the 301 of the 80s/90s was a 5.0 instead of a 4.9 to differentiate it from the 4.9. Is the new 5.8 actually 354ci? All the marketing stuff just says 5.8 liter. They could also knock off 3 ci if they needed to.

Editted because I remembered things wrong. Really wrong

The 289 was never called a 5.0. The 289 was always referred to as 289 from 64 to 68. The only motor I can remember for calling out by liters in the 60's was when they put the 427 in the galaxie, the badge for the galaxie said 7 liter.

I think you may be confused. The 5.0L of the 80's and 90's was actually 301 cubic inches and actually is 4.942 litres, but Ford called it 5.0 or 302.

Apparently I was wrong. I remembered reading it somewhere, but I wasn't even an itch yet in the 60s so I probably confused it with the later ones.

All 302's 1968 to 2001 (used in just a few chassis but not Mustang after 1994) had a 4 inch bore with a 3 inch stroke and as said above it was 301.44 cubic inches. Ford called it a 302 until it hit the fox body and 5.0 was born......still 301.44. Guess they decided to round off or just didn't like 301 (soon to be a pontiac motor size in 1979 I think). The new Boss comes out to 302.04090 (Bore X Stroke, 3.63 x 3.65 ) . I think my math is right, Pi x Radius squared X stroke x 8.

The result is actually 302.19 cubic inches (π x r^2 x stroke x 8 with r = 3.63/2 = 1.815 and stroke = 3.65) and when converted to metric (2.54 cm per inch) it becomes 4,952.07 cubic centimeters or 4.95 litres and automatically rounded to 5.0 litres.

I have seen the number "302.15 ci" before and it still rounds up to 5.0 litres.

351ci is converted to 5,751.859 cc and automatically rounds up to 5.8 litres.

I hope it's only a 2 year build as that, stating the obvious, will make them worth more years down the road. I also think it'll only be a two year build as the 50th anniversary Mustang will be built, rumors of new body style, and I don't think they want to distract from that with too many models.

What your speaking of is the 255 Ford produced because of emmisions from 1980 to 82..........it was widely used in cougars, thunderbirds, fairmonts.......When I used to look up parts in the catalogs it would include mustangs and Capris........never saw one in either but there could have been some. Smaller bore with oval intake ports instead of the usual rectangular ones on the other windsor style heads.......really poor on power..........good boat anchor material! None were built after 82.
