I could use some advice from people who have driven and built both cars.
I have a 2012 Boss 302, and I've already swapped in a Tremec T56 Magnum XL. I'm at the point where I'm asking myself if I should trade it for a Mach 1 or just keep investing in the Boss.
I love the S197 chassis, the styling, and the fact that Boss 302s are becoming harder to find, so I'm leaning toward keeping it. My goal is to make it as good as—or better than—a Mach 1 in the areas that actually matter on a road course and spirited driving.
I'm looking for recommendations on:
- Suspension upgrades that would match or surpass the Mach 1's handling and ride quality.
- Steering feel improvements.
- Chassis stiffness and bushings.
- Differential, half shafts (if applicable), and driveline upgrades.
- Cooling upgrades for track use.
- Stronger engine components (oil pump gears, crank sprocket, valvetrain, etc.) for long-term reliability.
- Any geometry or alignment changes that make a noticeable difference.
- Parts that genuinely improve cornering and driver confidence rather than just adding horsepower.
I'm not chasing huge horsepower numbers. I care more about balance, precision, braking, reliability, and overall driving feel.
If you had a clean 2012 Boss 302 with a T56 Magnum XL already installed and planned to keep it for years, what would you upgrade to make it outperform a stock or lightly modified Mach 1? I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who's owned or tracked both.
