I bought my 2012 GT in December 2024. Soon after, I noticed a distinct clunk sound would often occur when getting the car going in 1st gear and when shifting into 2nd and 3rd. Not so distinct at the higher gears. And if I was paying extra attention to making very easy/smooth shifts, the clunk would be minimal or absent. Earlier this year, I put the car on my lift and had a friend rotate one of the rear wheels back and forth while I listened for the noise. I could hear a distinct, loud noise coming from the transmission, maybe the bellhousing, when the wheel was rotated.

I became suspicious of the clutch, and I ordered a new one. Some friends helped me drop the transmission. Sure enough, there is play around the center hub that is not supposed to be there. That would certainly make a clunk when the pressure plate squeezes and the clutch engages.

Got everything put back together yesterday with the new clutch and the clunky noise is gone!
