That definitely helps, but still, it feels like car culture is fading.

Do you have any photos from your Monster Garage experience? That's bad ass.
Someone recommended me so they called asking for some video of me working on stuff and answering some questions etc. on camera and I sent that in. I got an email that said I was a finalist and that they would call me when they had a date for me.....a couple months later I sold my shop and moved to Hawaii and changed my number not thinking about it and that was the end of monster garage for me.

Well, it breaks my heart to say this but....it's time to part ways with the old s1 sequential shifter.
This thing has cost me too many races and 2 transmission. I'm done. I LOVED it when it worked, but unfortunately, it didn't always work. :(
So back to the tried and true.....stock Tremec Shifter. Hopefully the trans isn't too damaged from that last fiasco at laguna. (I'll post a link below)

Watch things develop through the end of the race. (About an 8 minute watch)
Not knowing if you're going to get a gear or not really throws your rhythm off.

Sometimes those older , tried and true things work the best --- kind of like you my fast mature Mustang Racer!
I’ll bet you say that to all the boys. ;)

I’m in the same boat Sal. Now I have to go junkyard shopping to put trans tunnel back to original. The S1 was so nice when down shifting but was not right for the Magnum XL.

Seems like it always missed 3rd either up shifting or downshifting….then it would get lost and I’d get 6 neutrals.

Thank God for Kevin @Albino500 I could never wrastle that trans in and out by myself. He is always there when I need him.
So, same trans (was new one race ago but a little beat up in that video above) and we installed a new Exedy Hyper single clutch/lightweight flywheel (the one we pulled out still looked perfect) and a new Fomoco throw out bearing.
The thing we did different this time was Kohr makes a spacer for the throw out bearing that's supposed to keep the bearing within its proper range for use with the quicktime bellhousing the magnum has.
Usually when I pull the trans the throw out bearing is hyper extended and all blown up, but I've never had one actually fail in use, so I just replace it every time the trans comes out.
I did some reading and the Mc Leod TOB I usually buy has very bad reviews, sometimes failing within a week of instillation.
Pulling the trans on this thing is a no fun at all kinna job so this time I bought the TOB and TOB spacer from Kohr that he runs on his race cars so I know for sure it will be right.
Got the trans full of Amsoil ATF and the drive line and exhaust in. I'll leave it at that for today.
Next up, put intake back on, the radiator hose back on and refill the radiator, refresh the ball joints and re seal the Diff Cover/refill then I get to deal with the giant hole in the tunnel left by the s1Sequential.
Good thing I know a pretty good fabricator. :)

Stay tuned for updates.

The Kohr spacer and shorty GT500 TOB is THE solution. Tick Performance just released an upgraded GT500 length slave with a bleed line - I will be very tempted to try this one on the next service.

Bummer to hear about your shifter issues. I removed the S1 from my T5 as well. but for different reasons. Since I'm still street car the reverse lever was annoying, there was increased heat into the cabin, and it grinded second (although that was transmission issue).

Looks killer but that price…..whoah. I’ll just let my kid pump that pedal until the pressure comes up. 😊
Fill the TOB on the bench mostly extended. Leave the line disconnected and add an extension hose to go into a catch bottle. When the trans goes into the bellhousing the TOB will get pushed in, the excess fluid and any air will come out the unconnected line and it will be bled and ready to go.

Great idea, too late now.

Well we got the car all back together and drove it around the block and the second gear syncro is trashed. That trans had one race on it....ONE.
I'm going to have it repaired and while I'm at it I'm going to freshen up the one I ran at Nationals.
I'll probably sell one of them off so if anybody is thinking about a close ratio Magnum XL complete kit with a new never used scatter shield, cross member, trans mount and hardware package let me know.
I also have the EXEDY Hyper single clutch/lightweight flywheel that came out of it. Had I known what great shape it was in I wouldn't have replaced it but I had already purchased the new one so, we stuck it in there anyway.
Don't you just love racecars?

How hard is it to take a magnum XL apart (easy part) and change synchros then put back together 🤔
According to the guy who did my last one they are a pain.

If I can do it, there’s no doubt you can do it Sal. I’ve been into mine 3 times now, and the full carbon Synchrotech synchros are the happiest I’ve been for high rev shifts.
