I installed the Steeda ultralite linear springs and it seems like the ride quality is pretty harsh. It just seems very stiff - like if I brake hard, the front end doesn't even compress at all. But it was also pretty bad before I installed those so I wonder if it's something else such as the shocks? There's also a soft metallic clunking from the front passenger side when I go over bumps at lower speeds. I also installed the Steeda adjustable bump stop kit so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I have run both the Steeda Sport and Competition springs on my S197, but have no experience with the S550 platform. Both are firmer than stock, but not harsh. The Ultralites are a lower spring late and lower the car more than the Sports or Comps, so there is going to be less suspension travel. The stock shocks/struts are marginal with stock springs. I wouldn't run a stiffer spring without replacing the shocks/struts. The noise could be the end links, but may also be the upper strut mounts. They are prone to making noise.

What does this mean?
The stock shocks/struts have just enough dampening for stock springs. If you go to stiffer springs you should get new shocks/struts that are a better match for the new springs. Most people change out springs/shocks/struts at the same time yo save on labor. If you’re still using stock shocks/struts how many miles are on them?
