S550 GTPP (Brembo) Brake Rotors

Hello,

I'm looking to catalog various brake rotor options which people are implementing for their track solutions. A few useful treads below although would appreciate current input on the following questions:

-Are people sticking with the OEM rotors? Purchased where? (dealership, rock auto, etc etc)
-What are the various rotor options? (excluding cross drilled/slotted)
-Is there a value proposition to be made for going with some aftermarket rotor? Multi-piece setup?
-What are people currently seeing pricewise?

My setup:
-2015GTPP
-square 305/19 Toyo R888r
-Hawk DTC 60 (CAD$245.00)
-Experienced racer, medium abuse tracks
-OEM power/weight
-<30 mins track time/session

The stock rotors are very durable so there's really no reason to look elsewhere. You can look at Girodisc or Stoptech for lighter two piece rotors or Stoptech for slotted rotors. I think most members will agree to stay away from cross drilled rotors. Several of our vendors can get you a good price on the rotors I've mentioned.

The largest place for improvement is lighter wheels and tires. While there are plenty of good tires in a 305/30/19 two of the fastest will be Michelin PSC2's or Pirelli Trefeo R's. The Hoosier R7 might be faster and their sizes are 295 and 315 with no 305 available. In case you missed APEX is in production of a 19x11 wheel that is much lighter than stock with very nice quality and fitment for a nice price.

Girodisc. They shed weight and are a floating design which helps minimize shudder and pad kickback when the brakes get hot. Black Boss has extensive experience with them and he is a man that uses the brakes very well (hard). Also would advise getting away from the Hawk pads. The are very aggressive against rotors. I like Carbotech, but GLoc are good as well and both are very rotor friendly while providing excellent bite and temperature performance. Pagid are also great pads but very expensive. Performance Friction would be another great choice but I don't think they make a race pad in the shape we need yet. Hoosier 295 R7s are a good choice but Pirelli Ferrari Challenge DH slicks in 305/680-19 sizes are the fastest tire for an experienced driver. They can be bought as take offs for about $100-$125 a tire from many race tire specialists. Check out GT Track Tire on facebook, they carry many different new and take off race compound tires.

Thanks for a feedback, I'll look into the Girodisc or Stoptech setups.

Related question, any odd procedure or tools required to swap pads? Special tool for retracting the rear caliper? Does the caliper need to spin back in or is squeezing by hand/c-clamp sufficient?
