The sticking shifter mystery continues any ideas?

Now, you're making total one hundred percent sense man, and I think you might have solved the mystery. It's been a real scooby, doo.Mystery at that. Man, this sucks.I was hoping that maybe the shifter would at least get me through for a while.Until I maybe traded it or sold it, but it sounds like I gotta rebuild my transmission, or put in a five thousand dollar tremic

With the MGW I would expect much improved shifter feel, precision and shorter throw. I would also expect lock out to continue. The question is whether the shifter is stopping the process or are the syncros worn and over worked. At 100k I would go with the syncros.
The upgrade to the MGW are work the cost even without solving the lock out issues.
Ask yourself, are you missing the gate with the shifter at lower RPMs with no lockout? Likely not. What changes as the RPMs raise? Inertia of the rotating mass? What does this affect? Syncro function?
I guess if I put in the tremic. It would be a lot better on the track when I get there.Next year ?

This could not have hit at a worse time. What's all my other bills? And everything like it really could not have hit it a worse time. But I guess I could put the tremic transmission on my credit card
And then pay out a pocket for the laborleoan

Sorry my speak text sucks . I saw it can buy a new tremic transmission for 3800. I have a new clutch and brake pedal assembly and shifter already . Maybe tremic and 1 piece aluminum drive shaft and keep the car for life? My civic is my daily driver so even tho I have 119k miles on the stang I could keep the miles down but is it even worth it at these miles? I could be working my way to a really nicely built road course car and thats what I wanted . I live 10 minutes to summit point raceway .

Forever car? I plan on mine being my forever car! ... Til something mangles the body. But then I can just buy another V6 chassis :)

You know -- all of your other gears work fine, right? This is definitely something you could kick down the road and do later. And it's not impossible for the problem to be the shifter -- but I agree with TMS, it's probably the tranny.

If you're going Tremec, keep in mind there are tradeoffs. Different gear ratios, and my understanding is the T56 Magnum XL will weigh around 50 lbs heavier than the MT-82 installed. And if you care about cruise control or having the reverse lockout solenoid working correctly, you need wiring work and a tune. That's on top of the driveshaft, bellhousing and new clutch you'll need. All in it costs about 10k or so. It does take punishment better than the MT-82 though.

Cruise control works fine on my 2011 with the T56 magnum. The reverse lock out solenoid wiring is pretty simple as well. You just need the keyed hot wire that was intended for the gear selector indicator on automatic cars. Gearing is quite different. 1-4 on the close ratio Tremec is basically 2-5 on the MT82.

Yea that's funny because as much as id like for it to be a forever car i haven't had that yet and im 50 but it would be nice but yes the other gears do work fine never getting locked out after 2nd

Did the boss have the tremic In.2012 and 2013?

No -- the production cars all had MT-82s. I think the 302S race car had a TR6060 in it though, like the GT500s of the time.

I guess my only concern there though. Is if the new clutch that I put in? Would be able to be swapped over to the tremic? It's an s r performance clutch and flywheel?

Realistically not really. I've heard that technically there are some places out there that will -- I think the term is, "re-spline?" a clutch disc but... That clutch is kindof a budget clutch. It isn't really worth spending money on it trying to swap it over. Personally I've never heard anyone who has tried to do that before so I don't know how reliable the results would be if you did find someone to do it.

What Bummer so a 1600 loss thats what I jusut put in? Or rebuild the MT82 ? F in transmissions ahh why.

I agree with others that your problem is not the shifter. Nor do I think it’s your synchros. It really seems the root problem is your clutch isn’t fully disengaging.

If you installed an aftermarket clutch the dimensions are likely different from stock. So the measurements and dimensions for the throwout bearing need to change also. Did you measure the travel and operating range of both the new clutch and the throwout bearing? Depending on the parts you are using, you may need to shim the throwout bearing or buy a totally different one altogether. The GT500 throwout bearing is physically shorter than the GT bearing for this reason, for example.

Apologies if you already know and have done this process. Sorry for your frustrations on this and good luck!
