I should clarify - if it’s not a purpose built track Ford (aforementioned) then it doesn’t cool. The automatic doesnt help. The new ecoboost mustangs can engage limp mode in as little as 10 minutes (with manual transmissions). The turbocharged fwd stuff is the same way

Again, guys, did not see any issues with my Boss 302s ( neither a race car) or the GT 350 , so was just answering a blanket statement that no Factory Ford can take the heat that track events cause. Frankly considering all my friends and guys who do track Stangs , they usually seem to be alot stouter than many other vehicles on the track. Are some folks having issues , sure, not discounting that, but a blanket statement saying no Factory Ford can take it on a road course is not only incorrect in most cases , it is misleading. Have driven a variety of machines on track over 38 years and the reason I have purchased quite a few Mustangs over the past years is they are a riot outrunning so many cars the public does not think they can run with, and they are quite reliable. As mentioned, not discounting some folks having concerns, just personal bias when folks speak in absolutes ----no offense.

I ceded track cars were an exception, which to me are Boss 302 and GT350 which I know a 302 came with a better radiator and an oil cooler over the standard 5.0.

Maybe if i get energetic I’ll run a real oil temp and water gauge. I used the conputer cylinder head and oil temp gauge. Non number on oil, but i can get it red and on a longer session, water temp goes up (ford of course isnt a real gauge). It’s just as well, keeps brake heat down to back off at that point too. I’ve never engaged limp mode as I’ve known ecoboost cars to di. I’ve also had cylinder heads to 260 which I think is where the sensor maxed out.

I’d consider mu car an economy car making due. The ecoboost the same way. The ecoboost (mustang or focus st) get to the point they feel like you opened an oven on broil to me.

The 302 was intended to be pushed. Hell it had a track key.

Sorry, Duane, this is just a helpful Forum and I was just standing up for the Ford faithful since you stated no Fords. Since that was not your intention, and you were trying to describe something else,, I understand your frustration-- I would be too and I was not discounting your problems. Hang in there and I think we were both reading between the lines, and noticed your edit to explain your intent - understand my friend.

I you read the Ford owner manual about page 13 or so it gives guidelines for track use, at least mine does. And if you stick with those guidelines you'll not likely have any overheat issues, other than possibly the diff on very hot days. Power adders change everything, especially blowers, it's a pipe dream to think you can boost power by 25% or more and not have consequences.

I just think tracking an old school auto (that excludes DCTs) is a recipe for disaster, unless you add auxiliary coolers and even then it's not a good idea. Those transmissions are just not meant for that purpose. If you want a track car buy the right tool for the job.

If it makes you feel any better, the fastest guy in my class was a C5 Vette w/ LS3 and 315/345mm tires running 1:47s...and I already posted the video of the other guy running 1:45...so we all have room to improve :)

Going that low on this track with a heavy car with a high center of gravity is tough. Miata absolutely murder our cars through cotton corners and grape vine. Sub 1:50 is a thing, but 1:45 will be very very hard. Who ran a 1:45?
